Took her for a spin afterwards and got a warning that my front right turn signal was not working. Somehow the bulb died on me as a result of the grille cover instal. 'Had to run over to the nearby Chrysler dealer, get a new bulb and take the grille partially off again to replace the bulb. But everything is back together now for the second time. Even a job this easy is determined to upset Smitty Lee's innards. Life is not always calm on Planet Smitty. Drama abounds.
Back in the old days they used to say never touch a bulb with oily fingers. Not sure if that was an old wive's tale or not but otherwise I have no idea why the bulb would die on me so soon. It's a brand new 2016 Sahara.
I got something very similar off of eBay. From China and not very good quality. All the mounting holes/slots/tabs were off by around 1/2". I had to re-cut/re-blend them all to make it fit.
BTW, the oily finger thing is true. If you touch a bulb with your finger(s) the oils create a hot spot that will eventually cause the bulb to burn out prematurely.
And I did handle it so my bad but lesson learned. Thanks for validating Dave. Folks don't touch the bulbs unless your hands are clean or u will be doing this job twice like Smitty.
Looks great! I just bought the exact same product and it should be arriving today! The lock cutout looks perfect. I had bought another of these inserts from Amazon by Safaripal (I believe). The mesh wasn't lined up and the hole for the lock was off by a mile. I really liked the idea of it though, and the cocowen looks like it's the exact same product. Fingers crossed that mine turns out as well as yours did. Well, minus the blown bulb, anyhow!

Thanks. The Cocowen at Amazon is the one to get so it seems. And remember what I said about touching the the turn signal bulbs. Don't be a dummy like Smitty or you'll be out 7 bucks for a new bulb. And every time you remove those plastic retainer clips that hold down the grille you should replace with new ones but don't get ripped off by Mopar the Camel Merchant. eBay and Amazon sell in bulk. You want the equivalent of the Mopar 6503598 push type retainer clip.
And I couldn't even get the Canadian supplier to respond to my email. Apparently no interest. I had from Amazon in two days, less expensive, high quality, and looks great. Very satisfied.
I have nitrile gloves but rarely use them. I will now. The problem with the turn signal bulb happened because I had a hard time getting it back into its housing and by accident touched the bulb several times. That sucker (bulb) just would not line up in the plastic housing. And my hands were greasy from touching areas treated with FF = recipe for disaster.
It looks good and looks like the hood lock hole lines up fine. One of the reviewers on Amazon said theirs didn't. Might just have to ask Santa for one of these!
Yeah I read that one review on Amazon and it originally had me concerned too but I guess every vehicle has slight variances and it could throw things off a hair. I wouldn't let that one review discourage anyone from getting.
I have to thank Unstuckie. He recommended, I had value points on Amazon, the price was too good to pass up, and the rest is history. Stick with Unstuckie.
Looks great. This is definitely on my todo list of mods.
