grinding noise

Hi all,

dont ask how, but I have accidentally mistaken the reverse gear with the 6th gear with my manual trani because the move to engage it is similar, I guess in my own bubble enjoying my ride on the freeway.... anywho, I heard a grinding noise before I realized what the hell I just did...

do you think I seriously damaged my trani or is the parts made really tough that once won't do any damage ?

Thanks !

Basically you just grinded the gears a little. I have done it once or twice by letting the clutch out a little too soon before it was fully in gear. I think as log as you don't do it too often you should be fine.

A little mistake here and there isn't going to do any damage. The grinding noise is just your transmission saying "No."

I do it on my Eclipse every so often, maybe every four months or so. Since the shifter is a really short throw, sometimes I'm not really paying attention and I'll start to move into gear before I've reached the disengage threshold on the clutch and I'll grind a little. Embarrassing, sure.

It won't be a problem at all. Just don't do it as a steady diet.

thanks for the assurance !

I was paranoying as ever since i took it on bumpy trails everything inside seems to be shaking (dash, key insert, speaker cover) including the shiftstick so i thought it might have been related.
