Talking Half door heaven!

Here's a few pics of my new '12 Rubicon. One week old, 92 miles so far. The Pentastar power is excellent; but I'm still getting used to it (a little different from my '06 Rubicon TJ). The general quality of build is superb; I have especially noticed the nice underside (chassis) paint and total lack of 'rust' underneath as is sometimes found on new vehicles. Ordered this one & waited 6 weeks for delivery. Six-speed, half-doors, deep tint sunscreen windows and trailer hitch are the only specific options on this JK. Overall, a nice step up from my TJ Rubi.

It's not the doors that I don't like (love em)
It's not having a window that rolls down that sucks.

Oh -- Cosmo is sweet

That's the way I feel. I love the half doors when the top is down. I would not like the zipper window when it was up though.

Nice blue Jeep. Boy we could only wish when we washed them down the underside stayed that nice. They really are a pleasure to look at and work on when they are new.

You don't need body parts. 2 grand, a paint job, and some assembly time and you can have half doors.

I wish the half doors came with factory sliders. If you want a lot of air like a completely unzipped window would provide you can just toss the whole upper behind the rear seat. There really isn't a practical way to half unzip the window.
But man do I love them when the upper is out!

You aren't doing it right.....

Not sure how this will work on a JK, since JK's with halfs are scarcer than hens teeth around here... but you get the idea.

Having owned a TJ with half doors I will say that the JK half door uppers aren't quite as 'tough' as the TJ's were. There's no velcro at the top of the window to hold it while manipulating the zipper; I also thought the TJ was a little better equipped with a nice 'rain lip' at the top of the window while the JK doesn't have this feature. But since my top spends most of the time folded down I'll get by!

Why ?

If one orders half doors in place of the full doors, there is no reduction in price and several features are lost.
Asked one dealer if I ordered a second set of doors (half) for a JKRU at the same time as Jeep order, what deal could he make. He said it would be about $3,000 plus cost of painting.
Even better than half doors, I like the Element Doors. So was thinking of aftermarket Element Doors with add on black lower panels (fit over Element Doors) and add on windows. Jeep will be Crush with black roof and fenders. I thought the outside lower door panels in mat black would look nice.
What are your thoughts and what am I overlooking?

^^^ I was in the same place. Almost ordered fulls and halfs from the dealer for about the same price as you stated. But then I realized, what do I want the fulls for? The Halfs are fine in the winter and I like the solid half doors more than many of the aftermarket stuff. I also didn't want to deal with storing more stuff. It's really just a personal choice.

To me the half doors make it a Jeep. I also like the uniqueness of my Jeep. I have yet to see a JK in person with half doors other than mine. People always comment on it and I've had a few JK owners even say they never even realized it was an option because dealers just don't stock them.

Gee... That is sooooooo tempting. Rescue Green, Unlimited, AND you're only about an hour away. Hmm... Are your uppers black I assume? The only thing is that I have a dark khaki soft top and I don't know how that would look...

Hmmmm....I dont think id like half doors. I have the soft doors that i can just make half or full.

The only reason I could see one wanting half hard doors is if u feel you need the protection.

Thanks for the info.
On the new Jeep Order Accessory List, it lists half doors for 2-door, but not for 4-door.
Can a 4-door be ordered from the factory with half doors?
What exactly is lost when half doors are ordered with Jeep?
For example, is the security system deleted?
Was thinking of adding to that system.
How do the half doors work in very cold weather (-30 to -50 F)?
Taking it to the next step, how does the rag top work in very cold weather (-30 to -50 F)?

Dave, Coming from a TJ with a sailcloth top, I've been amazed at how quiet the soft top is on my '12 JKU and I'm sure it will be fine in cold weather. I would have loved to get the half doors as well, but my wife and I wanted the side airbags, which aren't available without the S package. At least on a JKU Sport the halves aren't available with the S package.

The half doors aren't as thick as the sailcloth top, so you will finally get some wind noise, which was fine with me because it made feel more like I was driving a Jeep and not a luxury car (That's how I felt my JK was to my YJ)

I decided on getting half door because I didn't like the mirror location options I had for doors off. Of course I prefer door off, but half doors aren't too bad.
Here's my Dual Top/Dual doors 2010 JK
