Half door jeeps on the lot

Just had to get my battery replaced under warranty and so of course I went out to look at the new jeeps while I was there. Much to my surprise this was sitting right up front...

Turns out they have 4 wrangler unlimited half door jeeps on the lot. 2 reds, 2 blacks. I've never even seen one before. I'm really tempted to test drive the red one.

Also had not seen a half door upper window like this driver side one before either. It's the only one of the four that had a window like this...

Never seen that half door front window either. Maybe a design change for 14? Half doors are special order only up here. Most of the dealers around here order slightly to mid optioned Sahara JKUs.

Hmm. Gecko'a right, must be a new design change. I have a 14 with half doors and mine do not look like that. I hate them by the way. But did you happen to see if the top was a premium. I know as of now you can't get half doors with the premium top so maybe this is a change to address that. What dealership?

Cosmetically this window looks odd. I think the other style looks better. Maybe there is a functional reason for the change. I dont think premium tops are available with half doors still. Hell, they never even updated the interior door panel after the 2011 interior upgrade.

Well another odd thing that I dismissed at the time, when I ordered my Willys Wheeler I asked what options were available with the half doors and he said premium soft top was available. I declined because I thought he was wrong and didn't want to slow my order down. Glad I did I don’t care for the look of this upper door.

Dealership is Allen Samuels (Alliance) just north of Fort Worth.

I didn't ask anyone about the window because no one came out while I was walking the lot. (Crazy I usually get accosted in about 30 seconds by a salesman). Only one of the 4 had this window. Looks wise I like the other window, but maybe this one is better functionally?

All 4 were 2014 Rubicon unlimiteds. Very few options on them with manual transmissions. All 4 tops were the older style NOT premium.

List price $35,985

You can see pics and the window stickers here 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon: http://www.allensamuelsalliance.com/...492c5d91c0.htm

The front triangle is fixed and does not unzip...

Bestop and Mopar have had them in their catalogue for years. When I replace mine, I'm thinking about going for this one. MOPAR 1DZ05SX9AC - MOPAR® Front Driver Side Upper Door in Black Diamond for 07-12 Jeep® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK - Quadratec

Interesting why are they so much cheaper?

Cool. This whole thread has basically been a mythbusters episode. Still good to see dealers are putting some half doors on their lots.

Interesting. Thanks for the link. Looks to me like the dealer probably had a problem with the factory driver upper and replaced with the wrong (cheaper) one. Notice only the driver side is the split version.

Why do you hate them, and how did you wind up with them? Just curious as most people that get them seem to like them.

Hell for $250 a set I might get a set and save my factory one's so I don't stress about scratching my factory ones.

Sorry that was written a little odd and taken out if context. I hate the design shown by the OP with the split uppers. No I ordered mine with half doors and love them and wouldn't have a jeep without them.

Supply and demand I suppose.

Not a bad idea especially for winter when you have ice accumulation and much less opportunity to unzip them.

Thats a committed dealer! When I was shopping, I looked at hundreds of 2013's in dealers inventory and didn't see any with half doors.

Hope it's not a design change. I don't like it and don't want to be surprised when my half door JK arrives.

The only advantage to that style is it would be easier to unzip for drive thrus or ATM's
Mine hang on the Ac vent. I usually get out at ATM's and go in fast food places. Best part of having half doors is leaving the uppers at home in warm weather.

Weird. My 2014 has a plain front upper, not with that other triangle.

I've got to say the best part about half doors is putting the uppers behind the back seat. Convenient for those days where the whether is unpredictable.

I agree, every time I open my window I have to work it around my HVAC duct in the corner. I'm both retired military and now work for a defense contractor. Wether I'm going to work, or to the local Air Force base, I have to show my ID at the gate. I think the split windows would work well.

On the other hand, I keep my uppers out or doors off as much as I can. I think it may be a while before I buy new uppers.
