Half-Door Question

Considering half doors on my next JKU. Anyone regret getting half doors? I just need to decide if I can live without the power mirrors and windows.

You'll be happy! I love my half doors. Everyone I know here with them loves them too. Drive thrus are the only "pain", but I dont miss power..

I told you there's an easy fix for that. :-)

Unfortunately, didn't you get like the last one on earth?! If I could find one I'd probably buy it!

no I think you can still order them I think there right around $250 well worth it especially if you do drive or tolls on a regular basis much easier to deal with than the full window.

I don't get the appeal of half doors. I grew up around CJ's with full fabric doors and my first 2 Wranglers were TJ's with them. Always felt they were the Jeeps worst feature and cannot for the life of me think of a single reason to have them if full doors are an option.

Windows down gives the same effect and doors off is the same either way. I'm actually the type to take the doors off and leave the top up which is the way I roll weather permitting.

Opening and closing is a pain not to mention reduced visibility and longevity of the clear plastic. What advantage do you guys see that I'm missing.

I guess I can see comparing to old CJ's how you would think that they would be not as good as a full door but that's the great part when they are fully closed with the uppers in place they're basically just like a full door except for the plastic windows yes there is a trade off in longevity . The great part is they are completely functional no harder to open and close you can remove the top half have a door in place without the upper frame which does open up alot the lower halves are much lighter to take off and store. And a really can't see how there's any reduced visibility I guess if you scratch them up real bad then yes but as long as you're cautious and take care of them they will be nice and clear for years to come.

Be cautious and careful? Might as well buy a Honda Accord then... :- ) Mostly just kidding. But we love taking our Jeep (A YJ now, a JK soon...) anywhere we want to. Check out a bit of post-blizzard driving from a few years ago. The best being careful is at 0:45 and again at 1:05. And yes, our JK will have half-doors.

I love the look of the half door! Would get them on my next Jeep? Not unless I changed locations or was buying it as a third vehicle. Scraping windows in the winter would SUCK!

The lighter weight is an advantage I'd not considered. I suppose some would like the more utilitarian look and there should be a considerable price reduction.

There are still disadvantages I'd prefer not to deal with. Because the clear plastic does not lay flat the view is distorted even when new and no matter how careful they get scratched and cloudy after a short time. Glass windows will hold up much better to the tree limbs in the video above than plastic.

In cold weather they are impossible to open without the risk of splitting and in hot sunny climates they yellow after a few years.

I'll keep the glass, but am glad they offer the option for the guys who want them.

You can buy a Jeep with Jeep doors or a Jeep with minivan doors. Your choice.

I was tempted, but I use my windows too much to live with half doors. They are fine on my '94, but I couldn't do it on the '14.

I'm buying either tube or sheet metal half doors to run for the trails, so win-win.

See I got the half doors from the factory and then picked up a set of full doors and a hardtop from Craigslist I'll have about 2500 total into the doors and hard top after paint much cheaper than buying factory half doors after the fact.

Do they not make the glass sliders for the half doors on the JK, I absolutely love mine on my TJ except for the smaller opening in a drive thru or something, but if it's not freezing outside they're off and in the back anyways. never had problems scraping ice or snow off of mine, especially if your heater works like a Jeeps should it's clear in no time

No sliders yet.

My only complaint about the half doors is the noise on the highway. Depending on wind and speed it can be somewhat deafening.

I did have some drive thru workers once point and say "his windows zip". I got a huge kick out of that.

For me, the half doors are what I wanted so that my Jeep could be set up similarly to the 93 YJ I drove so long ago that I've lusted at ever since.

Get the full doors and add halves. Easier in long run if you want power later. I did and do not regret half doors with powerlocks and mirrors.

No, driving back from Rausch in the summer heat in a YJ with one door held shut with a racheting strap because you dinged the tub too much, now that's deafening. It was so hot I didn't even zip the windows up when it rained...

Yup, windows were scratched when we went out and were worse when we got back. The paint too.

Don't take this the wrong way but we didn't go out into the woods to keep the Jeep pretty looking, we went out to use it.

I remember when I got my first TJ I read somewhere on a Jeep site, "If you are worried about denting your Jeep go out in the driveway and throw a big rock at it. There, now it is dented and you can stop worrying."

Of course a TJ and YJ cost quite a bit less than a JK Rubicon, we'll see if I still have that attitude then, I certainly hope so. I don't want "I'm glad I didn't drive down that trail" on my gravestone.

Jeep can design the Wrangler as many times as they want and I'll still think the TJ is the best looking! Before I got mine I knew I wanted half doors with sliders, I can't believe they don't make sliders for the JK that's now on it's 8th+ year! That would be a huge turn down for me if I liked the JK that much more

That's something you should discuss with your doctor, but I'm pretty sure you'll be fine...

Had half doors on my YJ then on one of my TJs. The YJ was a toy so the uppers were almost never in. The TJ I hated having the plastic laying over the door panel when unzipped, ended up buying Bestop sliders. The sliders leaked like a sieve so I bought a pair of full doors off CL, added a pair of tube doors, and the halves never went back on until I sold it 3 weeks ago. My '15 WW will be delivered with full doors, tube door will be ordered this week. I'll put something else on the half door hangers in my garage. Also it's not what style doors your rig has that makes it a Jeep.

I don't have half doors, but I do have a non-power jeep (windows/locks). I'm happy to say that buying without those options is the best thing I ever did. Power locks would have been nice but power windows I could care less about. One less thing to break, removing the doors is a breeze, no worry of a window ever NOT going up. I have dealt with quite a few power window issues in some of my other vehicles and usually they break at the worst time, when you are out somewhere. LOL

I've had full and half doors. My biggest complaint on the half doors with soft uppers is the security part. That's what I had on my 04. I had many things taken out of my jeep. But I also didn't lock it because of the uppers. On my 98 I had full doors. And now on my 2011 I have full doors. But no power. I mostly love the added security. If the weather here wasn't so unpredictable I'd live with the doors off. (And if I didn't live on a shady street)

My sliders leaked at the top too, but new seals fixed that, I just like the look of the half doors and having that low profile especially when your on the hill and need to watch down the side in tight spots so you don't bang your face off of the door. Strictly preference I know, sometimes less is more by having no power locks or mirrors
