Half Doors?

Hello All,
I'm in need of half doors for my 2009 Wrangler Unlimited X - anyone know any details on where to find these? I called around a few junk yards and no luck, I also called the local dealership and he cant find them either. I saw them on eBay for over $4 grand, and THATS not an option - so..... anyone have any luck? My Jeep is black too - so are there any other options? Thanks everyone.

Half doors for JK's are hard to come by... Probably cause they're 4 grand Check Craigslist, etc. Eventually someone will buy one that was ordered with half doors and want full doors (for the life of me I don't know why) Love my half door TJ!
Good luck with your search. If I run across any, I'll post up.

Element™ Door - Tops and Accessories for Jeep & GM, Ford, Dodge Trucks by Bestop

the element door and the cover for it from bestop would be a more affordable option to the factory half doors

Half-Doors for the JK..... the Never-Ending Saga.....

To piggy-back on some of my other Jeeper's above, here's my $.02 worth on the subject.

Due to the D/C Bankruptcy last year, Half-Doors were put on the back-burner, and have only "filtered-through", for a select few, Lucky-to-have-found-them Half-Door Owners.

You're going to be hard-pressed to find them at this time. Craigslist, EBAY, Forum Classifieds, etc., are going to be your best chance of locating a set. Some Jeepers are even looking to Trade their Full Doors for Halves, and vice-versa. You might get lucky in that option as well!

Mopar is supposedly coming out with some $$$ figures soon... , but as of now, their Jeep.com website is showing $0.00 for Lower Half-Door Prices. They list the Price for the Upper Doors (Windows), but not the Lower Doors as of yet.

Half-Doors for the JK are indeed rare! Others, like me, have gone the Bestop route, until such time, that Factory Half-Doors are reasonably offered and available.

Here's what my 2-Dr Wrangler looked like, the latter part of last Summer.

These are the Bestop Highrock Element Doors. These consist of:

1. Tube Doors with Lockable Paddle Handles.
2. Steel Door Enclosure Panels.
3. Door Bags.
4. Upper Doors (Windows)

These cost me $1,092, with Painting by a local Auto Body Shop. Pricey? Not compared to the Factory Doors at over $3K! I paid a Third of what Mopar wanted for them.

If you're considering buying these, then look at Quadratec.com. They have the entire setup for your Unlimited. FYI, you can get the Doors With/Without the Door Bags. I got them for the extra storage during the Summer. Every little bit of space in a 2-Dr is considered, Valuable Real Estate!

Here's Quadratec's Door Info:

Quadratec Bestop Highrock Door Kit (Link)

Since your JKL is Black, you could most likely save a few hundred $$$ on NOT having to get them painted. The Tube Doors and Door Enclosures come Black Powdercoated, and are glossy enough to come close to the Factory color. Your choice though! As you can tell by mine, Yellow Powdercoat wasn't an option, when I ordered.

If you'd like more info on these, just let me know!

Best of Luck!

Cheers!

Just to emphasize what Shnutzy and Blackbeard are saying: Element doors start out as minimal Tube doors. You can then add the steel enclosures and upper windows to make them true half doors. You can also take those things off to get back to Tube Doors. (uppers pop right off, the enclosures are screwed on, and sort of a pain to remove, but definitely do-able). It's like a bunch of doors in one!

Blackbeard, nice pics.
I see the you have rubber weather stripping on the inside edge of the doors. Do the rubber strips come with the element tube door kit?

Wes!

Yes they do. Enough for both doors. They mount with a Peel-N-Stick Adhesive Strip, that's on the bottom side of the seals.

Before applying, it's best to clean the application area with an Alcohol Pad thoroughly, then dry completely with a Microfiber Towel. This will ensure good adhesion.

Best of Luck!

Cheers!

I stopped by my Dealer today, asking about the Part Numbers for the Half Doors, listed above.

They do indeed reflect Prices at this time, however, they are still not being made as of yet. No availability and no production at this time. The Prices ARE good news, indicating that it's moving forward on one front. Now, if they can get the Assembly Line up and running, they'll have a few Customers standing at the Finish Line as they come off! ME for one!

Half Doors Price - $1,100 Set
Door Panels - $149 Set
Upper Doors (Windows) - $349 Set

Slowly but surely..... sloooooowly but surely!

Cheers!

I just ordered a new JK Sport S model and ordered it with half doors, the dealer didn't seem to think it would a problem at all, also saw one on a lot with factory half doors (also a 2010), just didn't have anything else I wanted :-)

Hey Scooter,

When you had your 1/2 doors painted did you take the whole door to the paint shop or just the enclosure panel?

Thanks

If you mean the soft upper, it just lifts off. It is held in place by 3 long metal pins. Easy as pie. If you want to see a very cool video about the Element doors you can just go to this thread...I'm a Movie Star!

That's what I thought. These are not the Element doors but the factory half doors.I've pulled, pryed, yanked and twisted on the framing to no avail.

Ok, just to be clear, you are trying to remove the entire soft upper section from your lower factory half door? If so, it really should be the same as the element doors I believe. I have a TJ with factory 1/2 doors, and I think JK's are pretty much the same. Just grab each side and lift straight up. It may help to give em a squirt of WD-40 to ease things along if they've never been off. Pulling straight up is key here. Angles will bind up the pins. If you are talking about something other than what I have described, then please disregard my ramblings... It's early yet and the coffee hasn't taken full effect.

I don't have anything really useful to add to this thread. Just wanted to say that so far I've see 3 JK unlimiteds with half doors in person. One red, one dark green and one army green. Definitely starting to see more and more of the half door JK's around (although I haven't seen a 2 door one as of yet).

A few of the dealers I've gone to say that half doors are not available on 2010 models, due to liability issues. I just ran across an awesome looking 2010 blue Mountain model with half doors from the factory available from a dealer in Ohio. So, I guess I won't be doing business with the dealers who don't know their product. Still looking for that just right JK. Love the look of the Mountain with the half doors.

it may not be the dealer. it could be a state law concerning occupant protection issues. take a drive to ohio and get them.
