Smile Happy day! Approval received for tyres & lift

This is a bit lame - I had to tell someone, and people at work look at me blankly when I talk about wheelin.

We got our 2 door JK in November, and I have been trying to talk the girlfriend into allowing room in the budget for a lift and tyres since, but she was a brick wall.

Then yesterday she comes home from work and says "I got overtaken by a Jeep with big tyres and a lift AND IT LOOKED AWESOME! I think we should get a second set of tyres, and can we get black wheels?"

I nearly proposed on the spot.

That's it really. I'm not after lift or tyre advice (yet). Have started my most aggressive savings plan ever - can't wait till there's enough for some off-road tyres, steelies and a lift. Going without food and alcohol for a few weeks should do the job.

Wow, you're not even engaged and she's controlling the money? Um . . . . congratulations?

She isn't someone I met last week. 6 years together, shared bank accounts and loans, I can't exactly go out on a whim and blow over a grand on something like this.

After 40 years, I have found that asking for forgiveness gets you a lot more than asking for permission.

I see that the women's place in the home has advanced quite a bit there in 'ol progressive Australia.

There are some nice lift kits available, I'm thinking of this at the moment as the shop is nearby and they're good blokes. A lot of people are driven to Mopar kits out of warranty fear. OME are popular too.

I'll be looking for a 33" mostly-offroad tyre as we'll swap from the stockies when wheelin, so no need to worry about road noise or accelerated wear. I'll pretty much be going off other people's recommendations. Some of the Coopers and Maxxis are in the price range.

Soon I'll have joined up with the local Jeep club and they should be a huge help on this - I don't really know anyone into wheelin so a lot of what I've learnt so far has been from forums.

I'm pretty fond of the Cooper Discoverer STT, myself.
