"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty..." - President John F. Kennedy, Inaugural Address, Friday, January 20th, 1961
This weekend is about honoring those who paid that price...
We have today, because they gave their tomorrows, our Freedom isn’t free. It doesn’t come without a horrendous cost. God bless the fallen. And God comfort their families.

My experiences: my brother Daniel left for war.
About 5 or 6 weeks later, I was in Army Engineer Officer Candidate School (OCS) on kitchen detail peeling potatoes when I got a message to call the Red Cross.
The Red Cross told me that Daniel had been killed. At first, I was told that he had been killed by an M-16 round to the back of the head. Later I was told he had been killed by a fragmentation grenade. Later I was told the details were classified. Have wondered if Daniel was killed by his own men or if he was a hero.
When viewing Daniel’s body, it appeared the Army had tried to reconstruct his face with chicken wire and Plaster of Paris.
Later talking to Daniel’s widow (we still keep in occasional contact), she said that she did not recognize her husband’s body at first. It was so distorted. However, there were enough identifying features to realize it was his body. I saw some of the effects that this had on her. It still has an effect on me which is very surprising.
I agreed with her decision that it was best to have a closed casket funeral.
War is not pretty, but it is critical to our freedoms.
After the funeral, returned to OCS, a school designed to not only impart technical information, but also to break people. One does not want their leaders to break in combat or under stress. Finished OCS, paratrooper school, and a few other schools along with my Tour of Duty.
Since then have occasionally wondered what happened on that battlefield and how did Daniel really die.
One of the things I do is force things through government agencies. For example a new pharmaceutical normally takes at least five years to get approved by the Food and Drug Administration. As part of a team, can normally shorten this to two years or less. So have a good chance in dealing with the Army.

After Daniel's death, someone did steal his identity.

It takes all kinds.
