hard downshift auto transmission

I have a 2013 unlimited. I just noticed that sometimes when I come to a stop that the transmission seems to shift a little too firm on the last downshift. Is this normal ?

I have a manual but in other vehicles I've owned with autos, when that happened it was a bad U joint.

Bad transmission on a brand new JKU surely not! You don't think a U Joint can be bad on a new vehicle. O'k, then you might have a trans problem. Since you have 3/36 just take it in and let the dealer worry about it.

I had a T&C before the jeep. I had the exact same thing happen to me right after I picked it up new. It was a bad electronic shift solenoid. I had it replaced, everything worked fine.

The bad news is that it became a recurring problem, that when left unattended would eventually cause the tranny not to shift at all. Chrysler (and the dealer) were unable to resolve the issue after 3 years and 6 repairs. This is why I got rid of it and got a manual JKUR.

The JK auto tranny is not the same (obviously) as the T&C, so I am sure you will have better luck.

Cheers

How many miles? It will take time for a new Jeep to learn. I have had autos in almost every vehicle that I have owned. I will say that this new 5 speed auto is one of the best shifting autos I have driven. Both up and down shifts.

I have felt what you describe and it seems to be the 2-1 downshift just as you come to a stop. I don't suspect that there is anything wrong, just a little noticeable. I prefer not to fix anything if it ain't broke. Especially if it involves taking it into a shop. I'm just a little anal and prefer to break..er...uh..I mean fix stuff myself!

I know a guy that used to be an insurance adjuster. He did claims on places like Big Box Auto Shops. The horror stories he told from oil changes alone would scare you into doing it yourself.

Advice: keep driving it for a while. If it really bothers you have a friend ride or drive and get their opinion. Bring it in if they think there's something wrong...unless you like living in stealership waiting rooms drinking bad coffee!

Air Down!

I have not had that happen on my 2012. Have the dealer take a look at it.

Our jk has just started doing it at around 5000 miles and the JKU around 6500 miles... Only really notice it like the other poster said from 2 to 1st at fairly slow speed... Almost feels like someone bumped your bumper...
