Question Hard to put into reverse on 6-sp?

I've driven sticks most of my life and with this 2012 JKU, I find it most of the time hard to put it into reverse even with the clutch all the way in. I almost have to jam it in, like the slot is too narrow or too far to the right. None of my other manual cars and trucks or my other Jeeps had this issue. Anyone else experience this?

No. I have no problem putting in reverse. i also had manual cars for many years so it is pretty easy than some of other cars that i had. Mine has little play N and 4 gear tho, expect that it is shifting butter.

When taking various manual '12 & '13 JKs on test drives I noticed that it was a bit difficult finding 6th and reverse at times. I chalked that up to me getting used to the long throws.

I just slide it in 6th gear real quick and pass it to reverse. Easy and smooth that way.

Yes, it is slightly awkward to get into R at first, actually it still is at times. I've more than once had it not all the way in R and get a nice gear "kiss" noise, not quite gears grinding but it gets your attention. I've also been driving stick for the past 19 years, and the R transition on the '13 was and is something unto itself. It also HATES going in reverse in anything that resembles a smooth and gentle manor. I've come to the realization that to be able to go in reverse and into tight or challenging spots I have more luck driving like a noob would do it (more revs than necessary kind of way).

I get the the issue when it doesn't go into gear all the way about twice a year. It just doesn't mesh sometimes. Best thing is just to go forward and inch then try again. Sometimes it's weird to push it trough the reverse gate but you get used to it

seriously? 4th is the easiest for mine jeep. it's 2nd gear that gives me some sticky issues sometimes. I'm probably just terrible auto 6spd

I have this problem every so often, it usually slips right in there though.

I always put mine in 1st and then go to reverse to sync the gears. Never had a problem once I started doing that. Learned that years ago in a VW.

reverse gear is synchronized, so it doesn't have the same feeling as reverse on most manual boxes.

It takes a conscious effort in my '13 JKU to shift into R, but it beats going into reverse at highway speed.

I don't have it on this computer or I would post it. Go and read your OM. Not the owner's guide, the full manual. It's on the DVD or you can download it from Jeep.com. There is a full explanation of the knock over for reverse.
