I have a new 2011 Rubicon and I find it hard if not impossible to shift from 4wd hi to 4wd lo. I read the manual several times now and have tried to it exactly. I have an automatic tranny and I roll the vehicle 2-3mph then put the shifter into netrual. Then I attempt to shift the transfer case from 4wd hi to 4wd lo and everytime it grinds so i end up stopping. Once it made it it will sometimes pop the transfer case to neutral. Am I doing something wrong? The only other time I could get it into 4wd lo was by parking, shutting off the engine and moving the shifter to 4wd lo and restarting.

I found it a little difficult the first time. To do it just right I found that I have to be rolling very slowly, and I just pulled it until it popped in place. If you are pulling and it wont go, just keep pulling but not too hard. It should give. HTH

The owners manual also said it can take multiple attempts, it did for me too.. After the first few times it got easier. I hope the horrible grinding noise it made the first time wasn't damaging too lol.. When you see the ESP light go off, your in 4lo, throw it in drive and feel the torque.

On the JK you do not want to just shove it into low. There is a plastic clip that will break if put under stress. You suppose to get it rolling around 3-5 mph then put your transmission into neutral then move the lever over to the right and pull back until it goes into 4L. It should get easier after a few time. I do actually find it goes in better on mine with it going a little faster between 5-8mph but thats me. I don't recommend what I do lol.

:D RICS SPEAKS PURE GOSPEL--

Sometimes, if you have a lot of resistance, stop, put in "R" and while you put backward pressure(to the right) and let it IDLE in reverse--BINGO-jumps rightin !!

Like rics says=DON'T EVER FORCE THAT LEVER-yup you can fixit for $.47 c, but if you gotta doit in mud/snow/sand--

Good luck
