Hard Top Leak

So we got a decent amount of rain today here in Cleveland. I hopped in my jeep and started driving and looked over to my right and there is a stream of water down the passenger front door and a little puddle on the arm rest. I looked to my left and the same thing was happening to my door. It doesn't seem to leak when its sitting, more when I start driving and there is a stream of water from the roof that runs along the door. I opened both doors to try and figure out where its coming from. It seemed to be coming in from the top corner of the door where it hits the pillar that separates the back from the front seats. A couple of questions for you guys...

1. I know this is a jeep and I know there may be a little leakage here and there with the nature of the tops. I'm assuming though that a hard top, that has never been moved, shouldn't be leaking?

2. Is this a known problem area for leaks?

3. Is there any home fixes or should I take it up to the dealership since it's 2 weeks old?

Thanks!

Take it to the dealer. It shouldn't leak. Older JK's had some issues, but I thought they had worked them out. Search the forum for leaky tops and there are about a hundred threads.

I'd try taking the front two panels off and put them right back on. Make sure you're getting a good seal.
Maybe the dealer took them off to demo it to someone and didn't put them back on properly?
It's worth a try....

I've had 0 leaks in my 2010 Sahara and it's seen LOTS of rain in the 2 months that Ive had it.

I had a leak around the back window caused by the faulty rubber seal that comes with the rear window in my 2007 JK. My local Jeep dealer replaced the entire window under warranty (still have a few months left of it) and now the rubber seal is reinforced with a hard plastic strip behind it making the seal much tighter. I'm hoping this resolves the leak. I'll follow-up after the next heavy downpour.

My 09 Wrangler X had a serious leak. I took it to the dealer who then took the Jeep to a body shop. The body shop replaced all of the gaskets and trim and replaced the passenger side panel. Only one minor leak since then, and that may have been due to the panels not being seated properly.

my 08 wrangler had a small leak over the drivers door. I took the top down and put it back up, no more leaks. that was in 08. no leaks in 09 and this year took the top down and when I put it up leaks over the door and you could hear the wind coming in. took top down put it back up and no leaks. So we are very careful when we put the top up. no more leaks.

I have some JK top advice--it works for me and I've had both the Hardtop and "T" tops off numerous times

The majority of leaks, are because the "T" tops are just slapped in place and clamped down

Sequence and logic REQUIRE, that you follow the procedure !!

After removal of the "T" tops and just before reinstallation---

Check all mating surfaces, both the tops and the rubber gasket and LOOK for outof level conditions, if present--fix

Put passenger side 1st, giggle to settle in place/w alignment pin in place-set drivers top on, giggle to settle in place/w alignment pin in place, then clamp the windshield clamps-pass first

Install both thumbscrews at the back of each top and JUST START THE THREADS

Working back from the windshield, turn the twist clams untill the last thing to do is tighten the thumbscrews

Do the passenger side FIRST with the twist clamps, TWO-FINGERTIGHT

Then the drivers side-TWO-FINGERTIGHT

Never over tighten those two, because it RAISES THE FRONT SEAL

Too much BS-you're right, but mine doesn't leak !!!

Have a dry day

Good luck

JIMBO

I think that the thumbscrews cause a lot of problems--

My new Unlimited leaked the very first day after I purchased it. A few droplets on top of the center dash above the media center. We've had a lot of rain over the past couple of weeks and I haven't seen a drop since...

I drove about 250 miles today thorugh pretty bad rain and nothing. Weird...

The only difference is that yesterday it was porked outside in a lot, where rain could collect up on the roof. Today, it was in a garage and only got wet while driving. Dunno...we'll see.
