I have been working on it for a while between, well about 4 weeks in between all my sons stuff and work. But I finally finished fixing up the inside of my hard top.
I painted everything black, multiple coats. I also put sound deadener on all the areas where I made the head liner. Then covered the board with black headliner and fastened with aluminum u-channel all around the sides. I just put it back on the jeep and I think it looks great. A lot better then the glaring white before. The pics kind of show the headliner a different color, that's just the pic. Everything is black on the inside now.
For the top, I just scuffed it down with a scotch brite pad and then wipe it down with some alcohol.
The interior of the jeep is black and gray, so the black top goes better with it then the white, in my opinion.
I drove it around a little bit after I put the top back on yesterday and to me it seemed pretty quite. But I am going from 2 months with the soft top and majority of that time not having the soft top up to having the hard top on. So I might need a little bit of time to adjust. I can say I used the deadener in my wife's Mariner, I gutted her suv and put it everywhere and it really made a difference.
The fabric I used was from Jo-Ann's, not being a smart a--, but it's called Headliner fabric. It exactly lilke what is on your headliner of your cars. It comes in different colors. It was like $15 a yard and I used 5 yards, becasue I messed up on a piece. I also bought their headliner spray glue there, it was $20 a can and I used two of them. And that stuff is sticky, once you place the headliner on you can forget about trying to pull it back off, not going to happen. You need to be careful when smoothing it out on the board, you might get a wrinkle in it. I have one, made me mad! but it's over the back seat so I don't have to look at it all day.
Home Depot is where I got the Aluminum U and L chanel about $8 a piece I used 5 U and 1 L chanel. The board is like a pressed cardboard you can get it in 4X8 sheets. i used two of them. Put the soft top down and strapped them to the roll bar to get them home. That was a fun trip, wife was worried they were going to fly off and it looked wierd. I just used rattle can paint it was a Rustolym (sp) type.
I used B-Quiet sound deadener, around $85 for a 12"X 50' roll. I barely used any. Used the rest of it on the wife's SUV. You might be able to look around and find smaller rolls.
The biggest thing I can say is, make templates! much easier to work with then trying to trim the actual panels. The side window template were the hardest becasue of all the angels.

I for one don't mind the white top...doesn't bother me. They used white so it wouldn't radiate as much heat into the cabin from the black exterior. I'll be anxious to hear your experience after painting it black.
I am finding out that everything always adds up quickly with Jeep accessories.
Thanks for clearing up why they used white on the inside. I never thought of that, but it really doesn't get that hot in central Ohio as it would in TX, AZ or NM. So I will just have the soft top down.
Actually... It's bass ackwards if that was the mentality behind it... black absorbs heat and white reflects it, so black inside and white outside would keep it cooler and the current configuration would keep the maximum amount of heat in the cab.
More likely to have been an economical or aesthetic decision, but That's just my best guess. They could very well have thought it would be cooler (no pun intended).
No matter the reason, that liner job is flippin awesome
