Hey guys, Dan here in Tallahassee....I thought I might run this by the experts. My wife and I are really enjoying our 2011 4 door Wrangler. The weather has been great so it's been top off for the weekend, then top on for work during the week. Our glich is that the Jeep is raised with a 3.5" lift which makes the top diffucult to get on/off...I am ok, but its the fingers under the top that get her and I in the on/off process...my question is ...Is there any kind of solution to provide something to grab on to on each side of the hard top..? I know there are lifts out there, but my garage ceiling is way too high...I thought about putting a boat cleat on each side ( a rubber gasket in between it and the hardtop, with stainless lock nuts ). I am not sure if the top is hollow in beteween both sides though. It would be nice to have that to hold on to when lifting it on and off...beats having the fingers under there....any other ideas would be appreciated, although the stainless boat cleats might look kinda cool....Thanks guys..
Are you just looking for a way to get the top away from the edge of the bed enough to get your hands under it? If so maybe you could use a jack under it just to get it started. How tall is your garage ceiling? I don't think that I have ever seen one so tall that you couldn't mount a hoist on it.
hope this helps....i always get in the back, lift up with the top resting on my back, she puts two hockey pucks between the top and the jeep,i get out, then we lift the top off...we have it down to around 7 mins lol...if that matters
Yeah...we do the same with those big grilling mits or a towel or two...our garage is too high..we have to walk down a flight of steps to get to ground floor..I just dont thing it would work. I will research whats available... I am thinking of having a custom sticker/graphic for the hood to match up with the cleats...Jeep......"ANGLER" series...lol unk:
I would have to say they are pretty close....130-140 Lbs. Just awkward..! I have the boat cleats on the way to install on both sides of the top, to grab on to....will let you guys know how it goes..opcorn:
Good to know. I don't have garage so the wife and I will be doing the manual lift and carry into the storage shed quite frequently. Glad to know it can be done without a hoist.
That will be interesting with the boat cleats. Do you take the Jeep off road any? When I was in Florida and we would hiking or camping we would have to watch out for "wait-a-minute" vines. Vines with thorns that come up off the ground or bushes and tress and then wrap back to another bush, tree or the ground. Anyway, what I'm getting at is if you do take your Jeep through some trails, those wait-a-minute vines could tear off your boat cleats.
Looks like the 4 door with the extra length helps distributes weight better at least the video makes it look easier. I know with the 2 door, it is extremely awkward because the rear window makes the back side so much heavier then the front making. It easy for the top to shift on you as you are picking it up. I got to get a lift because my help last year let it slip and put a scratch on the back of my Jeep.
The 4 door JK has a top that the front section of the roof over the driver and passenger comes off, leaving only the back section just like the 2 door. I don't know if the back section of the 4 door top is compatible with the 2 door top. Anyone know this?
Good point about the Vines and going off road with her. For now, its just street driving , as this is my DD. I am still in the freak out stage if it gets dirty..lol...
