Hard Top vs Soft Top on Unlimited for OH

Was wondering if the hard top is really needed for southern OH weather. We have the snow and cold, but nothing more than 10"...and that is once every few years. I have drove convertibles in winter and it never seemed that big of deal. But I have read a few people say they are a necessity for any winter climate.

Just looking for imput on people who have a soft top and if they wished they had got the hard top. Or for people who have done it both ways and which way is better.

I have found two Jeeps I like at two different dealerships and the top is the only difference...that and 2 grand.

I am in Indiana and just about to buy as well. After driving the hard top, I realized for me, having some place to store the hard top and not being able to take it on/off by myself, I am going with the soft top only.

I can't comment on the winter weather performance yet!

Ive been through winters and snow with my 06 and a soft top and had no problems keeping warm. The JK heaters will keep you toasty with the soft top.

Here was my logic for my Jeep.

A NEW Hardtop costs about $2500 New. Even a used hardtop is hard to come by because they are hard to ship, etc...

A NEW Softtop from the dealer is $1,600. That said, you can look on craigs list, ebay or even here, and get a NEW soft top for $600 bucks or maybe a little more. Certainly you can find one under a grand.

I went with the hardtop, for this reason, and bought my soft top from Ebay (brand New) for $600. If you want both, go this route.

Storage is a PAIN for the hardtop though. If you dont have the room, just rock the soft top

I had an 04 Rubicon for 2 winters in Toledo. the first winter I had the hard top and sold it and just used the soft top the second winter. I can say that there really is no diffrence. It was nice not having to find a place to store the hard top since I lived in an apartment. Soft top should be just fine for you i would think.

Agreed- we're up in upstate NY, and are running a softtop. The JK heater is on some serious juicew- it'll still keep me warm on a 50 degree day topless Ask me how I know Mark W.

Yeah, space would not be an issue. I found the wheeled storage carts on Quadratec and I have good size garage. I am just trying to save as much money and not buy things on it I do not need or that I can upgrade later with something better.
