Hardtop rear window / Your opinion

Do you drive around with the rear tailgate window open? Or is it a bad move?

IMO it is a good way to wear out the support shocks and its just one big gust of wind from slamming down and shattering.

I wouldnt do it because of the exaust factor and if you hit a bump wrong, the window would be history.

Just take the tops off and you will be fine....... Why would you drive with the rear window open?

Now why would I do that? LOL!

I have a soft top I switch out in the summer but I often think how cool it would be if they would have designed the freedom top with removeable side and rear windows. To be able to pop off the lids AND the windows, that would be great.

It is not going to suck in any fumes as you will most likely have all of the windows down too. During the last heat wave I saw a few JK's riding with the rear window up.

Do soft top owners get fumed when they remove their rear windows?

^^ No soft tops don't get fumed. They are careful to say in the OM though that if the rear is opened, that the fronts should be also or you could get fumed.

I saw this post & think it is a great idea.

I just bought my 2009 Jeep Unlimited last week. I had wanted a softtop, but now that I have the freedom top it is great. I would like to modify the rear windows to pop on & off for when I am using the jeep on the ranch. Has anyone done this modification or have any thoughts/issues?

Thanks!

It's a JK afterall.....why not power windows all the way around?

I was just wondering about taking out the rear glass. And running that.

Anyone do this?

Looks like 4 bolts holding the rear window in.

I do it all the time considering I don't have A/C. Leave the front windows open or at least half open. As for protecting the support arms from wear - I did this.

ive never taken the glass out but i have ridden with the glass up several times, one of those times was offroad following more capable rigs around and watching them on the hard stuff. not once did it ever come down to even get near the tire and/or middle brake light. granted it probably wasnt all that good on the shocks but didnt hurt them. and at highway speeds it also has no effects. and not once did i get sleepy but as stated earlier (almost a year ago... dang zombie thread ) fumes arent going to be a problem and more than likely you will have windows down anyways.

I like the idea w/ the hose clamps. I drive around w/ it up if Im going camping, or throw my bike in the back. My main concern was going over a bump and smashing it, but it looks like this may solve the problem.
