I went with this one. Quadratec did a price match from Amazon.

Bestop 42806-01 - Bestop HOSS™ Hardtop Cart for 07-13 Jeep® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK - Quadratec

I like the fact that it hooks to the top while it's on the Jeep. All you do is sit it down and it's already strapped. Has heavy duty locking casters.

Built mine this week. Took about 90 minutes. Hardest part was cutting out the carpet to fit the wood. Wood, screws, (4) 3 inch swivel casters, and carpet remnants cost around $60.00. You will be happy you completed this DIY. Perfect home remedy for carting and storing that Jeep Wrangler hardtop.

Is the back glass supposed to hang down a bit

Well, I built my dolly. Everything worked out well. One question about how it sits on the dolly. The back window isn't flush and hangs down about a half inch or so. I notice what when I raise the glass to shut it flush, the top, rotates on the hinges a bit. Do I have it positioned correctly? Is everything ok? I don't want to damage the hinges. Thank you!!

How did you all attach the carpet or felt to the touch points? I was thinking of hot glue, stapler gun or tacks. I bought all the materials today and will be putting it together this week.

Thanks a bunch.

I plan on building one of these over the winter and I think hot glue or sprayable contact cement would work best for holding on foam. I'd be nervous about scratches using staples or tacks.

Staple gun worked well for me. The staples sit deep so there isn't much chance of scratches to hardtop.

I tried the glue gun, but the 2x4 are long and the glue dried before I could get it all on. I grabbed some tacky spray from my wife's art kit and worked perfectly. I am using a soft felt material (u-haul furniture cover).

Thanks for the replies.

It was nice meeting your family, as well. Had to tell my wife how polite your kids were. I hope the lift comes along. BTW, the cart is working out GREAT for us. Glad we could help each other out. That's why I like these forums!!

Haha the tolerance is probably fairly high. There is really nothing to it. And thank you, just helping out those who have problems putting that image in their head when they just look at a picture with a hard top on it.

Just build one of two dollies! This one is for my father. He's got an '02 TJ. Specs are all the same. I actually ended up using indoor/outdoor carpet in lieu of foam and screwed the ratchets to the outside so the short hook could be used to hang it up when the hard top is on the Jeep.

Overall pretty easy! Takes a little time but well worth it.

p.s. I used a staple gun for the carpet and rolled/folded a bunch for support on the "pillars"

Built mine this weekend. Used foam anti-fatigue mats from H. F. Slapped it together in about an hour. Not pretty but functional. Will post pics when the top comes off.

I used the dolly for the first time yesterday. Once aboard, the top was stable and it rolled easily. I did find that the dolly is a couple inches wider than necessary so I had to adjust the top position for good support on the pedestals. I'll make a couple changes next time the dolly is empty:
1. Add a locating strip or bars on the flat long edge to align the bottom edge of the HT on the dolly as it lands so the hinge covers will land square on the pedestals the first time.
2. Shorten the 30" frame pieces to cut down the excess width.

Yea, I used mine for the first time yesterday also. I too found it to be an 1-1/2" to wide, 28-1/2" would've worked better for me, I'll be modifying it when it's "empty".

Thanks for posting your findings, confirms what I was thinking of doing also...

Has anyone used this for a TJ hardtop?

Also, what type of wood is recommended for this?
