Harken hoist installed

Installed the harken hoist a few days ago. Took the top and doors off as it has been beautiful in Delaware. I added two extra straps b/c I was nervous about the kids being under the top. I am sure it would have been fine but the extra security helps me sleep better.
Also added the tuffy security deck
The kids have been beside themselves driving around with the top and doors off the last few days.

Nice setup, thanks for the pics! I tried to mess with another way of doing this using some old bike hoists, but came to the conclusion that it's not the right way to go.

I noticed you closed your rear window, yet mostly I've seen them left open. Anyone have thoughts about the pro's or con's of open or closed?

I don't think it makes any difference if the window is open or closed. I had to put the lift close to the back of my garage b/c of the placement of the opener so it would have hit the shelves on the way up. I could open it now that it is up and in place but did not see the need.

Thanks SBL! I appreciate the feedback. Did you order from Amazon or Quadratec?

Installed the 200lb Harken hoist last weekend. Just need to tie all knots. Will do this weekend but have heard doing so is a pita. We'll see... Hoping to have the top off shortly after.

Love my Harken hoist. Thanks for the pic with the window shut, I may do that to mine just to save the wear on the supports holding it open for 6 months. Good call on the safety straps, I did the same as well for peace of mind since I park the Jeep under it.

It's not too bad to do, but I cheated. My buddy who helped out said it was the same knot you tie for rock climbing, which he does, so I made sure I was busy doing other parts of the install while he tied them lol.

Figure 8 is super easy. Take your rope and create a bite then twist the bite and trace the other end back through. That will create a figure 8 not. Very strong and it won't move.

Can't get them in the UK. Harken UK don't respond! Harken US says call a European dealer....there are 5 and NONE have returned my calls. I could get from Quadratec or 4WD in the USA but transposition adds $60, plus HMCR (customs) add 20% VAT

So what does it add up to? Say $220 almost 50%. Damn. The bits in a hardware store probably cost $30. But if I built it, it would be U G L Y

Thanks for the tip SBL, I shut the window down on mine, I have a lot more light from the overhead lights now.
