Angry Hate when that happens....

Well took leave last week to go to KY and pick up the grand kids, they had a great time coming back with us and kept asking for me to "take the cover off", good times with the weather being warm. Anyways as we're driving back about 11pm I here this loud "THWACK" on the windshield but didn't see anything. Got home settled the kids in and the next day go to wash the jeep, Well wouldn't you know it right next to the base sticker on the top center section of the windshiled is a perfect circle about the size of a dime. Figured great less then 2 months old and already got a ding in the glass. No biggie I figure it's just part of the Jeep flat windshield curse as I had to replace 3 on my CJ over 20 years. Come out tonight to come to work and I notice something on the glass that didn't look right. Got out the flashlight to look at it (I work nights so it was dark) and there it was, a crack about 12" going at a diagonal from top center to bottom right. So now I have to price a windshield and get it replaced. Man this sucks!

Bummer ... do you have comprehensive on your insurance? Usually has zero or low deductible to cover windshield replacement. Just had it done on my Cherokee.

I think i had my first rock chip on the way home when i bought mine. The JK's windshields pretty much bite the big un.

That sucks....hopefully these windshields are not too pricey since they seem relatively small compared to like a full size SUV.....but then again, it is probably not the most common replacement either....... let us know if you get price quotes.

Well guys I know it's a Jeep (flat windshield, aerodynamics of a brick, etc) just hate the idea of having to replace a 2 month old winshield. Since my inspection isn't due til 05/10 I just may leave it as is til then. Insurance most likely would replace it but my deductable is $500.00 and I would think replacing glass would be less than that so if I have to pay it will be out of pocket & save the deductable, but I plan to check with insurance and see what they say. I had to replace 3 windshields in my old CJ but that I don't feel was too bad since it was 3 over 20 years.

Glass coverage is covered under Comprehensive, not collision. I would think you probably have a small or even no deductible for that. Least that's my experience.

the jk windsheild isnt as "flat" as the tj's were. I relplaced one on two different tj's and it ran me just under 200 a piece. I would think the jk windshield would run a little more since it is a little bigger and curved some.

Yep, comprehensive..... check on your deductible, but as noted, it should be minimal. Most glass shops will come to your home or business and replace it there

If it makes you feel any better, I've racked up 37,000 miles in 12 months, taken several rocks to the windshield and I have zero chips, cracks, etc. Maybe I'm just lucky but I don't think they are pure rock catchers/crackers

shit happens, just bad luck....i think it goes under comprehensive, so if you have 0 deductible then use it, otherwise just have to take the $200 from your own pocket..

I've had several windshield replacements with our vehicles prior to the Jeep. Twice on my VW Jetta in one year. I have comprehensive coverage in MA and the deductible is zero. All those windshields, no dollars. I have had a few hard hits on the jeep but so far, no major marks on the glass. Knock on wood.
