Having second thoughts... any advice?

My two door 10A (Anvil, red, manual, 730N, dual top, block heater) will be here in less than a month. The final price came out at almost 39k. There is a 2013 Grand Cherokee 5.7 Trail Hawk sitting at my dealership for 39k. It is a beautiful/manly SUV. The Wrangler was going to be a third vehicle. I decided to trade in my car (wife has a 2010 VW Touareg TDI with Air Suspension). They are not giving me a bad deal on the car looking at KBB but it is still a kick in the OO given that it is a year old (2008 GMC 2500HD Diesel (4 inch lift and 36's, moved and no room for it) -> 2012 Audi A4 (love it but not me) -> ?). The wrangler is a nice vehicle but then again so is the Grand Cherokee. I will be driving whatever vehicle for 12 miles one way to work down a country highway as I work at a power plant located all on its own. I drive a R6S to work most of the summer. I have two 15ft fishing kayaks that I can haul around in a 6x10 trailer that is 650lbs empty and has a 4klbs GVW limit. I have Polaris 850XP that I use for deer hunting, goose hunting, and ice fishing. I figured that the 2k towing capacity of the Wrangler would be fine and I could take out the back seat if I needed more room. Is the Wrangler going to work or should I take the Grand Cherokee? The second I sign the doted line, it will be expensive to say "oops, my bad!!!".

GC Trailhawk over all wranglers if price is the same.

except.....

if you are a true offroader

or.......

it is the 10A Rubicon we're talking about.

And its the 10A Rubicon we're talking about.

The 10A is a once in a lifetime chance at exclusivity. Don't let it pass by!

You are really talking about two very different vehicles. One is comfortable, luxurious station wagon type vehicle that can do limited off road duty. The other is a hard core reasonably comfortable off road vehicle that can be a daily driver. You can't really mod a Trailhawk. The Wrangler, on the other hand, is really a customizable platform that you can modify (it's a disease) until forever. That is part of the fun of a Wrangler- making it your own. If you want something in between then look at the Wrangler Unlimited 4 door, but it will still drive like a Wrangler, not like the Cherokee.Your money, your choice.

I just realized that's the 2013 GC so its missing the 2014 redesigned headlights. So now I'm even more on the side of the wrangler, unlike my original response of being very on the fence.

I have a 2011 gc overland and a 2012 wrangler. For a second car go with wrangler. Just to let u know for 2014 the window in the rear hatch can no longer be open separately. Big pain in the ass to put simple items in back especially if u want to put items in the back while car is in garage. Good luck with decision

I looked at both and ended up with my MOAB JKU, couldn't be happier. My mom had a GC SRT8 and ended up trading it in on a SRT Durango if that tells you anything.

If your thinking about the 2013 Grand Cherokee 5.7 Trail Hawk, then you will be happier with that. If your more of a F.T.W. type of a guy than a Wrangler is for you. Remember......you are the one that has to live with it......not us. Be Happy.

I say STICK with the 10A. I bought my wife a 2012 Grand Cherokee with the Altitude package. Great vehicle and as stated earlier, it is a very luxurious ride and interior is comfortable. But it ISNT a Wrangler platform, I am going to have both. why be forced to choose?

No advice, but what you are going through is common.

It's a form of buyers remorse, and it's natural.

In the case of ordering a vehicle, more than a few people make last minute changes or change their mind all together, hence the requirement for a cash deposit.

In on the lot sales, a good salesman is equipped to close the sale quickly and move inventory. So the buyer's remorse on color or options kicks in later.

I learned to deal with this as a military recruiter. They trained us to expect our applicants to have buyer's remorse after joining delayed entry. That remorse could be about joining or the job they selected or the training date/ship date they were given, etc.

So, no advice there about what you should do. Just go back and review the reasoning behind the 10A carefully.

(P.S. I had a flash of it this morning. I was driving to work and thought "Damn. I should have ordered white, not billet. Everyone has a billet. Let me call my dealer at 10 a.m. and have it changed while I'm still in production scheduled. But that thought went away after I had some coffee. LOL.)

I had a "similar" debate...

I really wanted Winter Chill, and I know I'm not going to be lifting my Jeep or doing a lot of off-roading. After I priced out my Sahara, along with a lot of the stuff I was going to add to it to make it more "mall friendly", and the price was pretty much in line with ordering a brand new 2013 Grand Cherokee that had all of the options I wanted and needed..and in all honestly, was proabably better suited for how I would use it.

However....it wasn't a Wrangler. That is what I actually wanted, and I have ZERO regrets.

Thank you!!

I appreciate all the responses. I haven't decided yet which is probably because they are two different vehicles and there is give and take with each. I am leaning toward the Trail Hawk simply because it will work for me better, the 2 door wrangler is a pre and post kids vehicle or a 3rd vehicle (I have two at 8 and 11). The only way I like the looks of a 4 door wrangler is with a 4 inch lift and 35s which with the 10 anniversary package would be a 50k+ vehicle.

I was in the Navy as a submarine reactor operator (ETN1(SS/SW)). I think deciding to do that was 100% easier than deciding which vehicle to go with. If i didn't have kids I would still be punching holes in the water.

I will post what I get when its mine (or the banks ).

I have 1 kid, he has no problem in the 2dr. And you won't have 50k in the lift jku. I would stick with the 10A.

FWIW went through similar issue....I will always take a Wrangler as my first choice as does my wife...but now that we have 2 Wranglers my 3rd choice was a '13 300 with awd....my whole point is, in our house we each have to have a JEEP Wrangler FIRST......and the rest will sort it out.

Topless drives home from work will have you loving a wrangler...that distance is almost perfect to let the air flow and clear the cob webs of the day. Like someone else said how hard is it for doors or top off the GC??

And vacas and long trips to the Lake pulling the trailer will have you loving the GC...which do you do the MOST!!!????

P.S. Yes I am biased!!!

Back seat in the Sport will work fine for those kids... Its actually roomy, its just a little tricky to get in and out of for adults. Your kids will probably love it back there, mine does!

They are absolutely going to love riding with the top off!

That's a real nice GC for sure but the wrangler you have coming is the way I'd go. I flipped a few times with other cars too because I hadn't found the wrangler that worked for me but with all the cars were right there for me to take home. Always about 2 days of thinking I always came back to the jeep. Wait it out till your jeep is delivered dealer will always be able to get another GC like that. If you see your jeep in person and still want GC then and only then sign papers. It's jeep season and if you see another jeep cruising like how you ordered yours with top and doors off you going to regret the GC. Just Gove both equal chance parked next to one another

Apples and Oranges shipmate.......

One sailor to another, I've found my JK to be like a sailboat I once owned, you tend to be a LOT more involved in owning one (both time and money). A super slick SUV, on the other hand, you can sorta just "own"...

Now try to spend more time in the less radioactive part of the ship...

Be honest with yourself. If you are only going to do light off roading and no mud bogging or rock crawling the GC is going to be 10X more fun on the highway and a better roadtrip vehicle. Face it top down is great putzing around but inconvienant on a roadtrip. I never feel secure leaving my gat or other valuable items in the wrangler and face it sometimes you have no choice. I personally have never seen the allure of anniversary editions as eventually they seem like they are a dime a dozen. Heck test drive them both and if that don't work flip a coin. 5.7L=fun on the road. Wranger=fun offroad.

Get the Wrangler. You already have a nice SUV in the garage. Why get another one?

REALLY?? !! Not trying to argue..just a little surprised...from '04 till '12 my TJ was my "go anywhere vehicle"...and that also meant 4 hour one way trips to Illinois to see family. And sometimes did "round trip in one day", plus visit for a few hours.....made like 12-15 hour days. Frequent trips to Lake MI with a 2-3 hour drive time also happened almost monthly since 2000.

In Dec of '11 Purchased the wife a '12 JK Sport...(sold her Camry)....and while the TJ had served well it was getting up there in miles and age and after lift tires bumpers Etc....we thought the JK would be a better choice....and to my wife it still is...she prefers the JK to any of our vehicles

BTW in Dec '12 we purchased a '13 300 AWD which I thought would be the ultimate "ROAD TRIP VEHICLE" (we also needed it for the times we had our parents with us) and guess what..... for just the 2 of us we pick the TJ for around town, and the JK for road trips...the mileage and ride and open top is perfect for us for Road trips!!

I went through a similar debate. Really wanted an altitude GC after renting a Durango for a 500 road trip. But my heart said wrangler. My dad still has his '84 CJ so I went to go look remembering the times I had as a kid in that piece of metal without doors and a top. Easy choice for me. Then the dealer only had Silver in the package I wanted. We looked everywhere and couldn't find any other colors or options. So I bought the wrangler unhappy about the color.

Best decision I've made!! I love the silver. I love the wrangler. And after I've done everything I can to make it drive terribly on the hwy I LOVE to see people in their GC look over and give a thumbs up or Jeep wave.

Either way, welcome to the Jeep family. Now just decide what table you want to sit at

only YOU can make up YOUR mind....

but i will add, that if a year from now you get over run with buyers remorse, that 10A will bring a much higher percentage of resale/trade in value....

I traded in an older WJ. I loved the vehicle, but the Wrangler is a real jeep. I loved the look of the new GC's... now I think it looks like every other crossover/suv.

It's always what YOU want. You have to pay for it and live with it. Do what your gut tells you and have no REGRETS about it later.
