Head problems resolved for 2013?

I just picked up my new Rubicon last week and I wanted to know if the problems with the 2012 heads are still occurring with the 2013's...

Thanks!

About 2k here and no problems yet. It seems like the problem engines are the orders from summer in 2011.

head defects are possible for all 2012 builds, including up to july 2012. 2013s are unknown. we do know they redesigned the original head (part # ending in AA) and replaced it with AB. It's assumed early/current 2013s have corrected head AB. Someone just had a head replaced last week and the part number was AC. We don't know if this means another redesign, or s'more smoke and mirrors.

Is the part number visible on the head without taking anything apart? I could always look and report back.

Sounds like a good question for before you bought it.

Haven't pickup mine yet; so what's the answer? Dealers don't know.

Haha yea I know! But I didn't know about the head problems until I starred looking at the forum.

My build date is Aug 2012 and I only have 500 miles on it... Haven't heard anything yet.

Actually, I didn't know about them either, until I got on this site a few weeks ago.

I guess I was being optimistic and just expected they were fixed for the 13s.

My 2012 JKU was built in early November of 2011 and suffered from the ticking head. I now have a 2013 JKU with a build date of late August 2012 and it seems fine. 'Course, I've only got 400 miles on it so far. My understanding is that the head problem was solved for all production vehicles built after late January 2012, but who knows? Time will tell.

The part number is not visible on the outside of the head and probably is not on it anywhere. You can see the casting number on the side of the head, but it is the same for each version of the head because the basic casting is the same.

As others have said, we won't know about the 13 heads for a while. Our 12 went 18k miles before it had any problems and others have gone farther. There won't be a definitive answer for years.

I have a 2013 that I got on 8/26, it has had a weird engine noise between 1800-2200 rpms since I picked it up, but I dont really think it's THE tick. The dealership cant hear it, of course. I figure it will get worse before my warrenty expires.

Hi, if you're referring to a tick on startup, that's a whole other thing. almost all pentastars will do a 3-5 second tick on startup due to the oil not being in the right place. this is considered normal.

I think a lot of people have knocking around that RPM. also been told that's normal.

Wow yours is a recent build and you've got the dreaded tick. I sure hope mine won't have that anomaly. You would think Jeep would have replaced the heads so we won't have to deal with that.

Anyone running synthetic oil and seeing (hearing) less ticking? We find that on our motorcycles, using synthetic eliminates or reduces some issues.

I dont think it's the same noise, the videos I've seen on youtube dont seem to be rpm specific. When I had it at the dealer yesterday they didnt get any codes or hear the noise.
