I have a 2014 Jeep Wrangler. When I turn on the heat my U-Connect Head Unit gets Hot and My NAV> system flashes an error message stating that the Display is Hot and the NAV feature is not available. Translation: The Head Unit is so Hot that the Navigation will NOT work. The Head unit has already been replaced by the service dept. Unfortunately the service dept could not figure out why this happen. After reading Techlife posting on this forum I give his post to the service dept to investigate. Is there anyone experiencing the same issues? It seems that this is a vent issue. Why isn't Jeep on top of this issue?
It sounds like the vent is cracked, if you run the AC does the unit cool down? Somewhere the duct work either to the vent or defrost is cracked or disconnected causing warm air to over heat the unit.
Hey All,
Perhaps there's more to this than we know. I just picked up my Sahara, had it two weeks now and was driving around with the top off and felt a slight chill (yes it might be summer, but the nights can cool off a bit), so I blasted the heat for a while. Then all of a sudden I got the same message "Display is Hot" and I couldn't do much more than listen to the radio.
Placing a hand on the unit indeed confirmed it was hot (to the touch). Now that's the exterior, who knows how much warmer it was inside the internal guts of the unit?
I had the heat blasting out the forward front vents only. Perhaps if the airflow was directed to the feet, or to the windshield it would have "spread the love" or the heat around?
On a brand new Jeep I was a bit surprised to see this message. Haven't had it happen since. Fluke?
Mine did the same just yesterday, so i turned it off and went home. I still have not tried it today cause i felt ill at night, I think it has to do with the jeep issue that is why i am sick this morning.
The center dash ducts run just beneath the stereo. The vents on the dash simply slide into these ducts with just a strip of foam around their circumference. It's possible they aren't sealing well and you are getting leaks within the dash. Pop off your window switches (or little cubby for non-powered window jeeps) and then put your hand in the cavity while blasting the blower. See if you can detect an air leak. If so then you at least know that's the problem. It's also possible that the ducts are simply radiating enough heat to cause an issue.
That section of the dash is held on by four screws and a bunch of clips....watch any stereo Head Unit replacement video to see how to remove (very easy). If an air leak it would be pretty simple to add some addition weather stripping in an attempt to get a better seal. It would also be pretty simple to fabricate some sort of heat shield to place above the ducts as well.
Ty for the info. I turned it on at full blast while driving to the doc (45 min) and everything seems normal, but I will try your suggestion when I feel better.
The NAV units also have incorporated into them a fan that's supposed to activate with increased temps. If the fan activates it will also stay on when the JK is shut off, but will deactivate when the door is opened. This is the first time I've heard of this happening. The dealer should check the vent routing and connections for leaks and they should also make sure the fan is operable.
I've had my 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited for exactly 3 days. Turned the heat on this morning and got the same message. Didn't get it yesterday. Going back to the dealership today.
Hi, I just purchased a brand new 2017 (not 2018) Sahara and was driving the other night during the summer and like you, cranked up the heat and the same thing happened to me regarding the Navigation panel shutting down due to the heat. I will bring it in as the car is only 2 weeks old. How was your issue resolved? Thanks
Mine just did it for the first time after having it for a week. I have been using the heat daily for even longer periods. Just turned on AC for ten mins nav never came back. Other than just checking the vents and nav fan any more solutions to be had? I was thinking some foil tape somewhere may make a difference.
Hi all. I have 2015 Town and Country that has displayed the same msg, several times.
Display is HOT. NAV feature is not available.
My vents are wide open when the blowers are on as well.
Also my Uconnect isn't working....wonder if that's a byproduct of the radio too hot?
Is there not/ should there not be a recall for this issue?

Just to add another data point - mine (2018 JKUR Recon) does this too. It seems I can avoid the issue when I turn the temp knob one click back from furnace level.
