I just came home from a day in Ouray. Beautiful day....still snow on the higher peaks. Beautiful waterfall action everywhere.

We had lunch at O'Brian's. Great food and some awesome craft beer(s). Most places are not quite open but the town is getting ready for all of you to stop by for some 'wheelin'.

Get the trail book: Guide To Moab, UT Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails (2nd Edition): Charles A. Wells, Shelley Mayer: 9781934838068: Amazon.com: Books

He's a bit conservative when it comes to what he calls "difficult". I've seen stock Wranglers make it just fine on Hell's Revenge. Though they did bypass the more difficult portions.

Pick whatever trails you think you might like and enjoy them.

The Blu-Pig is a great place to get BBQ. Good food, good service. Zax is also good. They do pizza. They're both easy to find on main street. Pasta Jay's, a block down from Zax is good too.

Brown Dog Pizza in Telluride is the place to be, there's also a bakery in Telluride that has amazing breakfast bagels. I just can't think of its name. Handlebars in Silverton has great food too plus a cool atmosphere. There's an ice cream joint on the main strip in Ouray that has good treats. Check out Animus Forks, it's a cool little ghost town way up in the mountains. Maybe a half hour to 45 minutes down the Million Dollar Highway. That road is trippy if you're afraid of heights. There is a very nice hot springs in Ouray as well. My aunt has a place in Ouray that we visited in 2012. Drove all day from Illinois and spent the night in Colorado Springs. I'd recommend stopping there for the night because the mountains start right after that and you don't want to miss any of them on that road to Ouray. Absolutely beautiful! Nothing at all like our boring plains states! We are hoping to make the trip out there again next year. I'd move there in a heartbeat if I could. I've never been to a place that I've felt more homesick once leaving than there.

I ate at the Outlaw Steakhouse in Ouray a few years ago and it was really good. I also ate at Siam Thai Restaurant in Telluride and it was very good. This was about 4 years ago so I'm sure there are more restaurants now.

Oh, and I am jealous as hell that you are going to Ouray. That area is my favorite place in the world. Unfortunately I live in Baton Rouge, LA so it is a very long drive for me, like 20 hours.

I have a friend who just got back on Sunday, a lot of the higher trails were still snowed over because they got a lot of snow late this year. Have your winch ready, he finally turned around since he got sick of winching every hour. I would think the Alpine Loop would be open by the time you get there.

I'll be out there in July and it can't get here soon enough.

Wow! That is commitment. I was in central CO over Memorial Day and thought my 13 hour drive was bad... You'll enjoy it, that is an amazingly pretty part of the world. I go to Pagosa Springs south east of Ouray every summer.
