Headlight recommendations

Looking to upgrade my headlights for performance as well as appearance. Price is always a factor, but most importantly I'm looking for great output as I usually travel back roads at odd hrs.

Thanks!

Truck Lites. They throw an amazing amount of light and won't break the wallet.

Just installed JW Speaker 8700 and they look the best(IMHO) and you pay for it. Light output is pretty damn good too. Harness needs slight modification as the notch is a little too big and I had to take a small piece off of it. Bad picture from inside the shop but they are nice.

The Fall 2013 magazine "4x4 Garage" did an article comparing a Philips OEM bulb replacement, Truck-lites and JW Speakers. They said the Truck-lites put out the most intense light (favorites for deserted two-tracks) but the Speakers (favorites for a daily driver) had a cleaner light pattern (oh yeah, they also said the Philips had a whiter light than the OEM bulbs and were "a nice improvement for the price")…

Just the information I was looking for. Thanks, I'll look up that article. :-)

I just put on the trucklite led headlamps and they are bright but the X artifact is very noticeable to me. I can see how people would find it distracting. Photos of the light pattern doesn't really show how apparent the x is.

A vote for Trucklites here! Way better than stock and 1/2 the price of Speakers. No complaints here.

Here's an easy breakdown....

Best output on a budget, hands down, trucklites.

Best looking? Hands down the JW speakers.

Most light output? HIDProjectors.com

Pick your poison.

Just curious with the Truck-lites, are you guys getting flashed by other drivers? They looked really bright in the pics in the article. I have a co-worker that has the last gen model and he gets flashed, but then he uses his Jeep mostly off road.

Well I honestly don't know what all the fuss is about. We have 3 jeeps and upgraded the bulbs to either PIAA or Silverstars Ultras and they work just fine for us. Better then our Dodge Ram and Caravan and much better then stock, but it is imperative that the headlights are aligned properly as the low beam cut off, both upper and lower are very sharp, aimed a little too high or low and you have very poor light. And yes, We drive 99% deer infested back highways. I also have Lightforce lights and 8,400 Lumens of LED light if I need them but they are only good when no one else is around. For reference, stock headlights on all vehicles are about 800 lumens.

Then he did not aim them properly. I aim each one individually (covered the other one). Then walked out about 100-150' to see if each bulb's reflection looked the same. Then fine tuned them. No flashes at all!

I love my Truck-Lites! I don't notice the "X -Artifact" at all while driving on the road. I do notice it when the headlights flash across a berm or a wall, but it's not an issue. Mine are aimed properly as well, never gotten flashed. Truck-Lites FTW!

Headlight selection is highly dependent on your budget. Determine how much you want to spend and the choice becomes obvious. The JWS are definitely the best but they are also the priciest. Some of the bulb replacements do provide a good improvement over stock but they are not in the same league as the HID with projectors TLs and JWSs.

Got the Trucklites and they are a big improvement over stock or the Phillips. Adjusted properly, you shouldnt have an X, i have 2 bright spots in the center, but not very noticeable. Only the top half lights up on low beam and both top and bottom on high beams. Worth the money but dont know if the JW Speakers will be that much more bang for the buck.

Bought the last one for $312 by DA a day ago, another listing by them popped up a couple hours later for the same price. Guessing they still have a decent stock of them left. I'm hoping the artifacts don't bug me too much.

Would I notice a difference running a RallyLights harness vs the TL PWM harness?

I purchased from the vendor below on Saturday and paid $311 + taxes so they came out to $340.00. I still need to purchase the anti flicker harnesses.

As mentioned above, if you take the time to adjust both vertically as well as horizontally, you can make the artifacts not nearly as bad.

Mine were aimed way too low originally and I noticed it, once they were raised up properly and adjusted left/right, they were much better.

I'm sure the jw are amazing, just could not justify the 2x cost.
