Just finally got my jeep, 2016 JKU.
Surprised how dim the headlights are and I want to upgrade them to LED's if possible. Looking for recommendations for an upgrade/conversion. Ideally something plug and play.
JW Speaker Evolution J can be had for $475 for the pair right now. I was just about to change my 2013 JKR head lights to these when I decided to order a 2017.
I just installed a set of the Trucklite led's in my 16 wrangler and love them. I live in a very rural area with dark backroads and these lights are great at lighting up the road. I got them for ~ $400 on quadratec. They are completely plug and play and come with an H4 to H13 adaptor. However it won't be needed if you buy the Pulse Width Modulator (PWM) which I did. (they are sold Individually). I would also recommend the JW Speaker J series which a good friend of mine has.
Even the 2017 OEM LED headlights flicker when installed on pre-2017 JKs ...
A few weeks back I bumped into a 2014 JK owner in the Canadian Tire parking lot as I was admiring his new OEM LED headlights thinking the vehicle was a 2017 model. Turns out he works at the MAGNA International assembly plant in Belleville, Ontario that manufactures the OEM LED headlight found on the 2017 JK. He installed the new headlight (with integrated circuitry) on his 2014 JK and commented that he was noticing flicker issues. I will assume that it was with the DRLs. The next time I see him I will have to let him know that his vehicle must require the flash programming as well to resolve this issue. Interesting enough, prior to that encounter, when I inquired at the Jeep dealership about purchasing the OEM headlight at $519 CDN each, no one mentioned that programming was required to eliminate the flicker.
I went cheap after market LED compared to JW and all the high end lights. So far, I couldn't be happier. Light output is insanely bright. I have the halo DRL. Also went with the LED fog lights. All had for about $200. I bought a brand called Optix. They sure do light up the road. They're quite awesome if u ask me.
Yeah that's why I'm leaning towards HID over LED unless I find them at a price good enough to not pass on. I'm up in Alberta, winter is a bit long so I can't really have my headlights icing over.
I had JW Speakers for awhile and didn't like them at all.
Then I switched to Hella e-code H4 with Phillips Xtreme bulbs and relay harness and really like this setup. Bright, great pattern, great color temp and they look just right on the jeep
I just installed a set of the JW's and was thinking the lower bigger bulb would be the low beam, but it's the smaller bulb on top for the low beam. Is this correct?
I have the trucklites and loved them until my husband got the kc gravitys. His have a much cleaner beam pattern and didn't require the anti flicker harness. Also the kc gravity had the drl set up unlike trucklites that require another adapter for that. Both are a huge improvement over stock so I'm sure you'll be happy with whichever you go with!
I put the 2017 factory LED headlights and LED fogs in my '16 75th Anniversary and they're incredible!
