Hella Rallye 4000 or 500 Black Magic

About to buy a winch, air compressor and 2 more driving lights.

Got the winch and air compressor parts covered.

As for the lights...

I'm wondering if I should go with the Hella Rallye 4000's or the Hella 500 Black Magics. The BM's are driving lights, which is what I want. The 4K's...hard to tell. There are several versions, apparently. I wanna make sure that I've got the right part #.

MFR part #, not vendor part #.

There's a considerable difference in price. Harnesses are moot, since I'll be hooking them up to my sPOD. Price isn't an issue. Neither is install, mounting quirks, etc. I'll make em work.

The Rallye 4K's are priced individually, with protective covers sold separately. Here are the links:

Hella Lighting H12560021 - Hella Rallye 4000 Euro Beam Lamp - Each - Quadratec
Hella Lighting 148995001 - Hella Protective Grille for Rallye 4000 Lights - Each - Quadratec

The Black Magics are much cheaper, sold in pairs, with the protective covers also sold separately. Links:

Hella Lighting 005750991 - Hella 500 Black Magic Driving Lamp Kit - Quadratec
Hella Lighting 135236021 - Hella 500 Replacement Stone Shield - Quadratec

The lights will be mounted on my bumper.

I'm just wondering which one would give me more capability off-road, as well as on-road (if I were ever to use them that way).

Durability and light projection are important, but I don't believe either one would suck. So...bang for the buck. Anybody using either of these? And, if so, would you buy em again? Any problems?

Likes, dislikes? I realize it's subjective, but it's still bread in the belly.

I've always liked the Black Magics. I don't run them personally, but I have seen several rigs that do and really like them. However, if I were in your situation, I would strongly consider the Rigid Duallys. They can be picked up from ORW right now with windshield mounts for 189. However, since you are wanting to mount them on your bumper, you can contact them directly and they should give you a price of $164 for a pair, shipped to your door. You can specify which type of light you want; flood, spot, etc. And, um, they are pretty damn durable. lol

I have the Black Magics. I feel that they are a good driving light offroad. I also use mine to help spot deer driving home on back roads all the time. Mine are mounted on the windshield and have been hit by tons of branches without any issues. They look good on black jeeps too. If you get the rock covers you can pop off the white hella logo. I popped mine off and painted them black and put it back on.

C'mon...that's a cardboard truck. Isn't it? Yeah, that wheel looks fake to me.

Seriously, though, that's one of the more important considerations for what I want. Durability in weather (not so much worried if a FedEx truck can run over em, but it's a nice visual).

How's the light output compared to the Hellas? Hmm.

I'll definitely check these out. Thanks for the tip, dawg.

Do they complement your headlights, or just throw out some light pretty much on the sides? I've got aftermarket fogs (not ideal, probable change em out in the future). I'm looking for something that's like a spear in the belly of a dinosaur.

Okay, maybe not that intense.

Still...

I've been on the site. But it doesn't give me any real-world comparison btw the two. Plus, electricity has it in for me, and would love to have me buy the wrong lights so it could fry me like a Louisiana catfish.

Trying to avoid giving electricity the upper hand.

Check out this thread, lots of good info
http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/bes...er-130966.html
I have the 500's on my bumper now and plan to move them to window mounts. Then when I have the time, put the 4000's I have on the bumper.
The 500 black Majic's are pretty good but not Great.

It's also worth looking at Cibie Super Oscars. They can be had for @ $135/ light. They get glowing reviews and are available in H1 spot/driving/pencil (long range) and for more $$$ a bibeam using H4 with fog (low) and driving (high). Neat thing is if you do a H4 headlight upgrade, you carry one type of spare bulb.

These, I assume?

Seen em in numerous threads. Never paid attention.

Wondering how good the light output is, as well as moisture resistance.

Gimme five...I'll have answers.

I have the Truck Lites. Crazy, I know.

You raise an excellent point, though. Since I'll probably never have to change a headlight bulb (looking @ new '15's already, even though there's nothing to look at yet ) might as well do something similar with the aux.

I know the Cibies are awesome. That's still on the table.

Funny how a post can generate more questions than answers.

The 4000's are about 9.5 inches tall-diameter, will they fit inside your hoops or in front of them, or do you plan on mounting on top of the hoop. Ive been looking at bumpers for mine with the size of the 4000's in mind.

Well, he said he was planning to install his MBRP hoop sometime this weekend. But seeing as there hasn't been a thread posted about the install or pics of said install, who knows what it is!?

9.5"? Wow...good info. That's most likely a dealbreaker.

Mounting point isn't an issue, really. I'll drill the bumper after the winch install, if need be. The side of the bumper, the hoop...everything's in play.

Most important: light output and durability.

No WONDER you are looking for auxiliary lighting

I wanted to "upgrade" my Harley lighting and did not do enough homework and bought a Kuryakyn LED instead of the more expensive Harley LED. It was a Truck Lite. Turns out the HD kit was a JW Speaker. Turns out I downgraded my stock light.

Lot's of choices, for sure.

I'll be going with IPF 900's which seem to have pretty good reviews and water characteristics, are H1s and part of the AEV conversion.

Here's a big thread on the Duallys over at JK-F.
Rigid Industries leds and windshield light brackets $ 189.99 shipped. - Page 2

Here's a couple pics:
This guy mounted them on the fairlead.

Here they are on the windshield. First pic is stock heads and fogs. Second pic is heads, fogs, and duallys.

Okay...back to you again. Not a bad thing.

Seems to me like the Dually's are pretty sturdy, and waterproof. Only question for me is the light output.

Since I bomb everyone else with threads, it's only right that I drop some ordnance on myself:

Duallys anyone?
Rigid Dually

After Chrispy's post, the 4K's are out. 9.5 inches? Don't need basketballs on the front of my Jeep.

Duallys or Black Magics.

My credit card hand is tingling. (It's also my pimp hand, but I only break that out when necessary.)

They also make Rigid Dually D2s, which have 6 leds. Much more expensive than the Duallys, but just to throw one more option out there.

Damn. I like that light output.

I'll do some more research (yup, I'm anal that way) but if these bad boys hold up to the elements, I'm on a pair of D2's like a teenager on his prom date.
