help bedline prep

I just had a trailer hitch sandblasted down to bare metal. Was thinking of spraying it with bedliner out of a spray can from auto parts store (duplicolor, rustoleum etc). Do i need to prime it first if im using bedliner? Should i reconsider and just paint instead, in which case i would prime it. Thanks for any input/advice.

I would just put about 3 nice easy coats of bedliner on it. First coat, just get it mostly covered and let it dry for about 90 mins, then a light second coat. wait 60 mins and then a pretty heavy coat, not dripping, but almost wet looking final coat. That will hold up well, no need to prime for bedliner.
