They are great tires!!
My wife and I just picked up our Hard Rock in Virginia last week and drove it back home to Louisiana. Very little road noise, great traction in rain and snow.
When I get my lift in a few weeks I will be upgrading to larger KM2's
Not the greatest tire on the highway, but off road they do very well.
I'm running my stock 255/75/17s and I have found them a bit noisy after they get a few miles on them (especially after a rotation-- which I do every 5K).
I will actually be replacing mine soon with a good set of ATs, as they're quieter and have better highway manners.
There are way more things that you can do better with a KM2 then you can do with a KO2 or KO. How do I know? These are the only tires I have been running on my vehicles for years. In my opinion the KM2 is better on wet roads.
3 of the 5 jeeps I just went to Moab with were running the km2 35/12.5-17's and they did great in that environment. I have wheeled a fair amount with one of the guys who has them in the snow and he is an excellent off-road driver. I would seem to have an easier time in the snow with my toyos than he does. non snow conditions he does a bit better than me. I would not hesitate.
Hmmm... Great tire for me (I use 285/75-17s) but not sure you got a good deal for a used tire, even if it is barely used. New ones are as low as $1527 delivered.
To be fair, if you got them mounted, balanced, and taxed for $1500 you saved some coin. DTD charges me $110 to put 5 tires on wheels. And if you're in a state where 4 Wheel Parts has a brick and mortar store, they'll charge you sales tax ($106 in my state. But you can also find them at other dealers for 308 - 310 each, dealers who don't charge tax or freight when shipping out of state.)
I love my KM2s, great in the mud and trails around here. Not great in the snow, but realistically if it's that sloppy out slow down and pop into 4WD, I've never gotten stuck at home.
On the trails in upstate NY, KM2's work great on the dirt, rocks, and in the mud. In fresh snow and deep snow, they work great. In the nor'easter that we had in NY last week, we got about 30". At 6AM, I was the only vehicle in the parking lot at work. At 12:30PM, I left work. The snow was already at least a foot deep. I drove home in a combination of roads where plows were fighting to keep up and roads where they had not plowed....or where it looked like it had not been plowed. Either way, I helped get 2 cars unstuck in parking lots on the way out of work and 3 more on the way on and off the highway in the piles of snow that the plow trucks were stacking up in front of the exits to get on and off the highway. Below is a picture of my Jeep in the parking lot around 6:30AM.
I won't speak to how good, or bad, your deal for the 5 tires was. I bought mine used also.
I believe all Rubicons still come with the old original KM series. I'm surprised they never switched over to the KM2s, especially with the KM3 series near.
