Help ID this axle!

Calling all DANA gurus...

I've been trying to confirm whether or not I need to do axle swaps so I can run 35" tires. Here are the axles currently on my 2007 Wrangler (2dr) Sahara with automatic transmission. I crawled underneath today and took pictures of all the ID numbers I could find. On the front there appears to be another sticker that got ripped off.

The front's a D30, the rear a D44. There should be a metal tag between two of the bolts on each cover with the ratio though, i don't see that. Are you the first owner, or do you know whether the PO regeared? The ratio is probably on the build sheet and/or window sticker.

If it came from the factory with a tow package you definitely have 4.10 gears and would not "have" to regear for 35's, but it will be a dog on the highway.

If it did not come with the factory towing package, you probably* have 3.21 or 3.73 gears, which would need to be swapped for 4.88 or 5.13 for 35's on the auto transmission.

*Sorry, that one's a real crapshoot. I've read everything from "it definitely only came with 3.07" to "it definitely only came with 4.10". 3.21 or 3.73 seem to be agreed upon more often from what i've seen... but i live in TJ world.

I am not the original owner, so I have no idea about regearing. I bought it from a wholesaler who got it as a repo.

The build sheet confirms that it has:

DRZS Net Gen Dana 44 HD Rear Axle
DMFP 4.10 Rear Axle Ratio
DSA Anti-Spin Diff Rear Axle

DJRS Next Gen Dana 30 Solid Front Axle
DS7S Conventional Diff Frt Axle

-Nothing about the front axle ratio though-

The front axle absolutely matches the rear from the factory, and it would take a complete lunatic to regear the front without changing the rear. You have 200,000:1 odds of 4.10 gears front and rear.

This is both good news and bad. They are riiiiiight on the line too low (numerically) for 35's. You could probably get away with it if you don't do alot of highway driving. We have different engines and transmissions, though; check the JK regearing threads for a chart of recommended ratios to tire size for each transmission. I would suspect that 35's on the auto tranny would be somewhere around 5.13.

If you would drive down the interstate at 70mph in let it get into overdrive, write down the rpm's while at 70mph in overdrive and then post the rpm's, manual or auto, and size tires. then we can tell you your current gear ratio from that information.

Front and rear gear ratio has to be the same or when you lock into 4wd you would break one set of gears.
