Help Mopar Factory Tubular Side Steps

Question about mounting bracket. I have a 12 JK. I see the 3 factory holes. I don't understand where this clip is supposed to go.

The clip nut or speed nut. I don't think I need them. Is that possible?

when i added my step bars to my 2012 jku, i did not need mounting clips. there were threaded holes already in the body to accept the bolts for the step bars. hope this helps

Mine are threaded. They had small pieces of tape covering them from the factory.
