Help Needed 2013 Spring Assist Removal for Cargo Rack

I haven't posted in awhile but all the help here was invaluable during the purchase process.

I have been running a cargo rack (brand withheld for the time being) and have the dual top option. Now that it has finally stopped snowing it is time for me to install the Premium Soft Top that as you all know has the spring assist hinge.

In order for me to get the soft top up with the cargo rack they advise briefly disconnecting the hinge that now has the spring assist. This was never an issue in year's past as it was just a bolt, but now I'm struggling to figure out how to remove that hinge. Can anyone help?

Basically I need to get that top strut free of the hinge so it can move independently of everything else

The manufacturer of the rack gave one of the worst all time customer service replies and basically said they can't be expected to keep up with changes that Jeep makes. This is after they told me there would be no fitment issues with the 2013.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Pretty sure you're not supposed to take either of those nuts off because of the spring assist assembly. All of the directions say to attach the hold down strap and unbolt the 2 bolts that attach the entire assembly to the roll bar bracket. I would be concerned that taking that nut off could cause the spring assembly to unwind or come apart.

Unfortunately, the cargo rack company is saying that hinge needs to be temporarily released in order to raise the soft top. It would appear to only be removably by knocking the hell out of it and even that is difficult due to limited space. That may also hinder the ability to get everything back together after the fact.

The rack company claims they have successfully done this with other 2013 premium soft tops. However all the instructions on their site reference the old style (non spring assist) hinge and again they are not providing any additional help claiming that this is a Jeep problem and not a "their-product" problem.

I'm willing to sacrifice the spring assist just to get the soft top up at this point. It's raining and the jeep has a tarp on it now. I have a new safari top on order to avoid this entire scenario, but that won't be here until the end of the week and it's supposed to rain all week.
