Help newbie with a buying / customizing strategy

I'll admit to total n00bness, but I will do my best to not embarrass everyone. I'm even practicing the wave

I am in the market for an unlimited, most likely 4wd and automatic. I have so many dumb questions, but I'll try and limit them a bit - hopefully some experienced jeeper will help me out a bit here

My first upgrade will be something like a 1.5 - 2" lift and larger wheels (32-34?).

I'm trying to figure out which base model / package I should go with. I find the packages somewhat confusing - whats required for what etc. I wanted to get one on order, then start getting into the upgrades.

What will I *not* be able to get later on? as in what should I try and get from the start if I think I ever want it? 4wd comes to mind.

What about GPS/ 'my gig'? Are there good aftermarket gps / audio out there? I'll prob need a GPS at some point as I drive to a lot to new places..

Should I get the dealership to handle the lift/wheel upgrade? They have a company called 'fortec' do it. I dont know if there is a better way to do it? their 'custom packages' go up in price very very fast. Is that the preferred way or can you find a local installer perhaps to help with the 'tricky' stuff? As a newbie I'm just a bit concerned about being ' taken ' by a dealer paying 2-3x what i should be....

Could I get a unlimited x 4wd automatic and worry about all the other stuff later?

More questions to come

If you get one and want to lift it do it yourself.

I should add that I probably dont have the mech-skills to do it by myself and live to tell the story

At least not at first - i'd need someone in the greater ATL area to help me. Any recommendations are most welcome.

But thoughts on the dealer / fortec doing it? is that the ultimate-ripoff?

I will guess your shopping at nally or nalley jeep in hotlanta? Fortec is crap.. oh wait crap with bling. they mostly do 3"body lifts add lights and bumper for way more than you could do it yourself or have a local shop do it for. I would save your money and then after you buy it take it so say, southern offroad off exit 10 or 11 on GA 400, they did a decent job for me a few year's ago and I would think they are still there. OR better yet join a local 4x4 club get some food and have a mod weekend at your home.

when i was at my local dealership, they told me i could do that ! (get the power conveniece option) BUT if you choose to do more options youd almost be better off with the sahara .. as you only save like 100.00 or somethin like that ... and you get AC with it as well ... which is a 1100.00 option ... and the power option is 1000.00 too i think ..
