My end goal is to fit "35" inch tires. Probably 315/70/r17 duratracs so not really 35s, but you get the point. Currently i'm riding with stock bumpers, but plan to upgrade them at some point.
I'm concerned about getting a 2.5 inch coil kit and getting over 2.5 inches of lift on my 2 door. On the other hand, I'm concerned about getting a spacer kit and then having a lot of sag when I do eventually get bumpers. My current coils are 15/55. So I figure I have 2 options. I can't really spend the $900 for the most popular kit all in one shot, and am not sure I'll need the coils.
1) Buy the TF 2.5 inch spacer BB without shocks or extensions along with the Rancho RS5000s to start. That will let me fit my 35's and I wont have to worry about sag until I get my bumpers. Later down the road (probably not until next year) when I get my bumpers I can pull the spacers and add the TF front and rear coils in their place if I get too much sag.
Keep in mind, I'm in full mall crawl mode at this point. I'd like to get into light trails, but I'm just not sure where to go and haven't dedicated the time to figure it out. Some day, but not today. Opinions, other options?
Lots of options that you didn't list, but first I'll throw in a few opinions.
A spacer lift will more than likely give you the least amount of sag because the spacers are solid. Also keep in mind that most coil lift heights are given with a fully loaded and equipped rig in mind. Most 2.5" kits on a 2 dr will give you 3 or more inches.
If it was me, I'd go with the RK 1.5" coils. You can just buy the coils for now, get buy with factory shocks and your geometry shouldn't be changed enough to affect driving. I like LCOG builds and flat fenders, and with flats and these coils, you could run 35s. I think the coils are $140 a pair. Then you could add LCAs, extended sway links, track bars, etc. as you see fit.
You could also go with the TF Perfomance leveling kit, which is similar to the RK coils, but includes extended sway links and runs about $500 ish I believe.
Don't get tied up in necessarily buying a "kit". So many options and configurations available. And do all the research you can on understanding what each component does, and how it affects your suspension. Some things you may need, others you may not.
Wont I get sag because my stock coils are 15/55. The spacers wont sag because they are solid, but the added weight will compress the weak coils, lowering my lift to possibly below the ability to run 35's, correct?
Are you sure I could just buy coils. From what I've read the 1.5 RK JKU coils will put my two door somewhere around 2.25-2.5 inches of lift. That seems like too much to be riding around with stock everything else. I mean, yes it may still drive, but is that really a better option than what I've posted?
Also I can't run flat fenders. Wont pass inspection in PA. I'll most likely have to get the 11.5 inch bushwackers to cover my tires.
Finally the performance level kit still only lifts 2 in the front 1 inch the back correct? Without flats, that doesn't seem like an option either.
The 1.5 RK is good for 2.5 on a 2 door. I bet you will love it. Rancho is still running a rebate on their shocks. All you would need is to grab some shocks, bumpstops, rear brake line relocation kit, exhaust spacers and some correction brackets or the TF fixed sport LCAs on the front and a TF track bar relocation mount on the back. You can run the 315s without problem if your backspacing is good on the wheels.
Yeah I plan on getting the Rancho shocks before the month ends for the rebate, I figure I'll use them in whatever build I go with. The thing is all of those extras you mentioned will put me over budget. Esscentially if I wanted to go that route I would just buy the most popular kit on wf.
As for the Rk coils and the kits I linked not having castor correction. Good point. So I'd probably want to add some geo brackets to any of the kits. Point being Rk coils with out all of the extras can't stand alone with or without geo brackets right? Wouldn't it be better to go with either of my options assuming with any of the options I would add geo brackets?
I do plan to take it off road at some point, but it wouldn't be large rock crawling. There isn't much of that around here. Currently the most off road it sees is camping paths which is basically a dirt road.
In any case. I've got the RK coils in my back pocket. Focusing back on the first 2 options. One is rancho shocks and a 2.5 inch tf spacer lift. The other is a full blown coils kit. The thing that make's these two comparable is that they are almost identical in price. At that price should I just go with the coil kit or go with the spacers. The two good to be true light seems to shine on that coil lift, but if it suits my very light use purposes why not? That's the dilemma.
Yeah I'm starting to lean that way. I doubt I'll be flexing much at all. I'll definetly be replacing the stock shocks with Rancho's.
Question about the rancho's. With a 2.5 inch spacer do I get the shocks to be used with the 2 inch or 4 inch lift? Also where is the best place to buy the RS5000X, it looks like the one's I linked earlier aren't the X version.
Edit: Or are they? Looks like the part numbers match up with the X, maybe quadratec just didn't update that picture or title.
The 329s and the 330s are great on the 2.5 lift. I'm running the 330s with my 1.5 lift.
