Help with tires

I have a 2 part question that some people may have done in the past. I just bought a 2012 Sahara unlimited (first jeep ever, and loving it) I plan to put a 4" lift in the spring. My plan is to purchase the tires over the winter. I have a few picked out, but nothing in concrete. I like the looks of the Nitto mud grapplers 35 x 12.50 x 18.
1st question is... has anyone just purchased a tire (or 2) at a time, is this not recomended. My friend says that I should buy them all at once, but it is easier for me to spend a few hundred every few months.

2nd question does any one know if the Nitto Grapplers (mud) drive well on pavement? any help would be appreciated

Thanks Sean/Massachsuetts

If tires sizes vary on an axle, the carrier (in the differential housing) works harder. So, on an axle, they need to be the same size (or very close). Since it's a 4wd, the fronts need to match the rears.

I just bought that exact tire (set of 5) for my 2008 X and I think they are awesome. Of course they hum like a prop jet on the highway but kind of relaxing in a way. They vibrate a bit as well but not intolerable.

I am not aware of tires being sold in a lot. I had a nail in the sidewall once and had to buy a replacement. When they are mounted they need to be properly balanced and that should do the trick.

I certainly wouldn't put one tire at a time on the Jeep but I don't think that is what you meant. I think Discount Tire may have a layaway plan.
