So I'm leafing through the December 2012 issue of Road & Track this morning and on page 52 there are a few paragraphs on the 2012 JK. I am quite surprised to find that the new 2012 JK delivered to me less than a month ago is missing a gear from the new automatic transmission!
That's right - according to the fine journalists at Road & Track the new automatic is a 6-speed. "The Jeep feels livelier thanks in part to a new 6-speed automatic transmission that replaces the 4-speed."
I want my extra gear. Who do I contact to resolve this?
Seriously, it's sloppy reporting like this that caused me to drop my subscriptions to several print magazines, Road & Track included.
2012 JK Sport S, Bright Silver Metallic Clear Coat, Auto, Freedom Top, Deep Tint Sunscreen Glass, Connectivity Group, Infinity, SiriusXM
- Ordered 9/10, D status 9/14, D1 status 9/15, I status 9/26, KZ status 9/28, delivery 10/11
The level of writing in almost all magazines has taken a plunge the last several years. I get 4 magazines and all but one of them has had a noticable loss of quality. Sometimes they are absolutely painful to read. If you really want something painful to read, pick up a copy of the Air Force Public Affairs Handbook. There's an error on every page.
2012 Silver Sport S, Silver, 6 speed, soft top, 3.73s, LSD, PCG, Infiniti, deep tint windows, Pro Comp 1028 wheels, 33" Duratracs, Smittybilt bumpers and steps, KC fog lights, Mopar slush mats and fuel door.
My 2012 is missing a gear too, unfortunately it is forward.
Chrysler told me a forward gear wasn't something you explicitly requested on your order. Your Jeep is working as designed. You got a freebie when you had a forward gear and you are lucky if Chrysler doesn't charge you for it.
They probably got that 6 speed auto from the Chrysler report that came out back at the first of the year. There suppose to be a new 6 speed coming out at some point with a new transfer case that includes AWD. There was a big to do a while back over that.
