High Mileage Options???

So I am trying to get a Jeep...and my main problem is patience...I have none. My second problem is money...I have some.

With that said a lot of Unlimiteds I see that are in my price range have high mileage 100k-150k. I could wait til the end of the summer and probably get whatever I wanted...but...I don't want to.

*Quick side story* 2010 started own business, worked 100 hrs a week for 9 months straight...no days off. 30th B-day was June 2011 for all my hard work decided to buy something I always wanted...C3 corvette. 4 Days after B-day went to take the car home because I saw it was about to rain*live less than 1 mile from our business* but I didn't make it got hit with a Torrential downpour like someone dropped a giant bucket of water on me... car hydroplaned spun out I was T-boned...couldnt get out of the bed for 2 months, couldnt walk for 6 months.*

So any way...Ijust like to live, I dont like to put stuff off...and I wan't to get another car I have always wanted before I turn 31.

So what that said...thoughts on high mileage examples of JK unlimiteds??

Buy what I can afford...trade it in when I can afford more?
High mileage wranglers are crap dont do it?

Just let me know what you guys think.

Also there is this green 4 dr wrangler on cars.com for a good price...modded...

You can buy a brand new one with no options for around 19.5!

The opening line was the most important: You have no patience and don't have the money to afford the Wrangler you want.

So that's pretty much it then, isn't it? No answer is going to make you happy, because the only options are either (a) wait or (b) get a Wrangler that's not what you really wanted. There's not much to say that's actually going to make you happy.

That said, I don't know what your budget is or what you're really looking for, but I can offer a few obeservations.

(1) Do you really need a 4 door? 2 doors are less expensive.

(2) The engine in the 2007 through 2011 Wranglers is an old design that is very "tried and true." It's been used in many vehicles for 20 years or so. It's not terribly powerful, but it in general is reliable. Of course, if you pick up one that's been poorly maintained, you could certainly have problems.

(3) Are you comfortable doing your own auto work, or would you be comfortable befriending local folks on this forum and seeking out their assistance in DIY auto work? If you choose carefully, you can often get a low price "bare bones" Wrangler and affordably mod it aftermarket to make it into the Wrangler you really want. However, paying for labor to have a shop install those mods is probably going to crush any savings you may have achieved by buying "bare bones" in the first place.

(4) Wranglers hold their value very well. Make sure you look at getting a new bare bones Wrangler. You could drive that for awhile and then mod as you go to build what you "really" want. This would provide a number of benefits, including a new warranty and the new engine that Jeep started using in 2012.

Did a quick search on Atlanta CL, seems like there are plenty of low milage Unlimited JK's in your area in the 16 to 20k range...talk to your bank and see what they'll offer you for finaincing.

I bought a lease return from my local Jeep dealer and paid under 20K for a loaded 10K mile 2 door JK with 7 year 70K bumper to bumper warranty.

Good luck.

2007 with 49k miles is not what I would call high miles. If you could get service records that would be a huge benefit. One with 49k miles and well maintained/repaired will have a lot of life left in it, one that has been poorly maintained/neglected could be a money pit from the get go.

My suggestion would be to buy one for $3k - $5k and beat it to death while you save for a proper one.

That way you get to enjoy the Jeepyness of a Jeep while learning what features you'll want to add when you step into the majors.

Project JK has a pretty good write-up of what to look for in used wranglers.

I bought my 07 2 door w/ 35,500 miles.
Wiped out the factory warranty in a week
I looked for a year and glad I was patient.

I have not had any serious problems.

I would stay away from a modded jeep.

Yes, the 4 door has more space...I own a dog boarding grooming business...I also rescue dogs...I have 3 of my own...Plus...the Wife does not really like the 2 doors unless the tops are off

Gotcha

I love doing work myself. That's the fun part

I definitely need to look into this bare bones 2012 thing
Thanks for your input

Yeah I know it. That's just not me.. I also have sickle cell...so growing up and even now...there are times I just can't do stuff....so I always do what I want if I can do it. I'm 30...my life expectancy is 60, many ppl around me have died ever since I was young...I have no time to wait...I only have now...if I wake up tomorrow I am blessed and will enjoy that day to the fullest with no regrets...

Oh the 49k was the modded non high mileage one I saw. Records are always a plus

Definitely some good points...checking out project JK now...still scouring the net as well. And I need to think about this buying a 2 door for cheap enjoying...then purchase a 4 door later

I thought about getting a 2 door and removing the back seats for the time being to have a little more space...but...the 4 door seems just right

i can see after being laid up my patients would be almost nonexistent, but if your spending all your cash on a jku with 150000 plus miles, can you afford repairs. might want to try waiting until you have a little more cash and get the jeep you want. i might spend less and find a good used tj with the 4.0 engine with higher milage on it if i found myself not wanting to wait.

Did I say Unlimited? Nooo...a high-volume dealer near Boston sells non-a/c, manual, soft top 2-doors for under 20k.

Shopping and NOT being in a hurry bring surprisingly good data for you to consider. My own journey took a year of seeking out & driving a couple dozen different rigs, plus a lot of on-line and JK forum lurking.

I had settled finally on the (then new) JKU 2011 due to best financial arrangements and warranty. All but the final papers were left to be signed....and a drop dead perfect vision appeared before me: a cream puff 08 JK Sahara, outfitted with 24G options, 15000 miles and $21k price tag....saving me $7k and has been absolutely perfect this past 20,000 miles.

It still puts a grin on my face every time I go for a spin.

And yes, IMHO avoid a pre-modded Jeep.
