Agreed. My wife called me the first time she drove our 13' at night. She said "I can't get the headlights to come on!" I told her they were on auto, to get out and look.

You know glass is on the losing side of those metrics right?

Seriously! I had already researched the headlights that were going to replace the factory lights. The factory lights are much brighter than my wife's 2010 Honda pilot. All I know is that my 2013 was the last group to be shipped prior to the 2014 production line........and I don't need to replace my lights. I'm betting that all 2014's will have brighter headlights.

Must be my luck. My previous vehicle was a 08 accord coupe. I had to upgrade the lights on that also. Something like 1100 lumens. Horrible

It was cheaper to upgrade the honda's bulbs though

What type of bulb does the pilot have?

Well I realized today that the 2013 JKU has polycarbonate lenses and windows made in Mexico. Commence disappointment.

I was actually pretty impressed with the stock headlights on my Jeep after all I had read about how poor they are. I definitely wanted to upgrade anyway. The Truck-Lites are not plastic. They are a polycarbonate. There is a video on Youtube of a guy literally heaving a Truck-lite lamp across a parking lot. After recovering it, it has barely a scratch on it and works just fine. This one example is worse abuse than your headlights should ever see in their lifetime. I would seriously reconsider your position on these lights. Even for the $450 I paid, I'll tell you they are worth it! I like to see!

Ok. Now that I know the stock equipment is some form of non-glass, my mind is a little more open to this fact. I live in a hilly urban area with segments of road sans-streetlights. Once I take delivery on the '14 I'm sure I'll have a better idea of what it's worth to me.

Trucklights are on the table with ACE sliders and Nemesis sliders. Only one will win.

Anyone install the KC HiLiTES H4 Headlight Conversion Kit? Page 6 of the Quadratec Spring catalog.

I currently run Sylvania SilverStar's in my 2001 Grand, and have been happy with the performance.

I am looking at Sylvania's H13/9008 SilverStar ULTRA, thinking I should maybe step it up for the new rig? Remember, I'm just looking for driving lights, not stadium lighting... These seem like a nice upgrade for less than $30. Thoughts?

Oh, and it'll be a while before I have a new front bumper to add additional lights to, so don't go down that road just yet...

Thanks for your comments!
You like the Silverstar's? I thought they were less bright than the stock Philips bulbs in my 01 GC, just with the fake whiter light. I ripped them out and put the 65w high beams into the low beam spot and didn't blind anyone. Yes, Jeep headlight housings are that bad. Well, the 7" Wrangler housings are worse. If you want more usable light, have to ditch the housings.

I spent $109 on the KC H4 headlight upgrade and it's much better. Brighter and more focused light. My light meter states they outperform my stocks by a pretty large margin.

Awesome, I'm sold. Now I just need to flip the unopened Silverstars and Philips X-treme Power H13's I bought impulsively...

KC H4 + KC 5" 55W

Bad pic but you get the idea. Much brighter than the stock junk. Had to go onto the side view to take a pic as I was suntanning my eyeballs at a downward slope due to my driveway...

Wrong setting on my camera (slow shutter speed) at about 70 feet... pretty bright - lighting up the neighbors

Damnit why is amazon listing these H13's as a restricted item? To eBay they go!

I just ordered a set. I may change out the bulbs for the Phillips Extreme + 80, although I want to wait and see how the stock hilites H4 bulbs work first.

Perform quite well. With the Phillips Extreme +80 they would be even better. Not going to spend the money on those bulbs yet...

Very nice thanks for the photos! I am going to wait until I take delivery on my 2014 to see if they made ANY changes to the housings. I have a couple of dark roads in mind

Any better deals on the KC setup out there besides Q-tec with free shipping?

I recently switched to Osram Rallye 70/65 bulbs in my Hella lamps from SMS and like them a lot. We got a chance to really try them out in Montana a month ago -- good stuff. I was originally running the Philips Extreme Power bulbs, and I could never get a good balance between high beam range and low beam height.

I ordered up a set from Q-Tec yesterday but they are out of stock and expected to ship around the middle of this month.

That said Q-Tec was not able to price match with the Amazon seller but they were cheaper with free shipping (109.99) than Amazon with shipping (104.15+s&h). The lights are not Amazon Prime eligible either.

I figure the KC lights are worth a try at $110. I have a little time to figure out which bulbs to run - I've had great experiences in both light output/color and bulb life on H4 Osram Silverstars in my last VW. (This car also had a set of European housings for improved optics). The bulbs have blue tinted glass and the output appears to be as white as a sheet of copy paper when looking at the lights from the inside. The light output seemed diminished in adverse weather, however this was offset with the foglights built into the E-Code housings. I kept the factory bulbs for the fogs as they helped to restore visibility lost with the whiter headlights, I'll probably keep the OE bulbs on the Jeep for the same reason.

If you already changed out to Trucklites, is there any benefit to the additional harness?

My KC H4 kit actually gives me some high beams... if you guys notice in the stock setup, there is little difference in low beam vs high beam. KC high beam is way better.

Driving down dark streets last night and they are much better than stock.

$109 isn't a lot to spend on a headlight kit.

I agree, I thought I was going to be hanging out a Q-beam based on what I've read. I have to admit that any upgrade $ I planned for the lights will be going elsewhere. My build date is from the first week of June 2013, so maybe there is some truth to an improved design? Maybe I'm not as picky as I thought? All I know is that I had plenty of light gong down some country roads last week.

I agree. $109 seems like a deal considering most upgrade lamps are in the $30-50 range. I'm going to evaluate the 2014's performance, and if it falls short I'll place that order with q-tec. Thanks!

I too have a 2013 Wrangler built last month. While the low beams are more than adequate, the high beams are severely lacking. This is the first vehicle I've owned where I can honestly say that the low beams provide more useable light than the high beams. I actually find myself using the low beams where I otherwise would use high's in most other vehicles. Even my wife commented on how terrible the high beams are on this vehicle. I live in a rural area with LOTS of wildlife. Good lighting is not a luxury for me, it's a necessity. This will be one of the first mods I do, improved headlights.

I just put my KC HiLites in yesterday. INSTANT difference, even with the H4->H13 pigtail the stock bulb they came with. The heart of the issue is the harness though. Im going to get the $30 H4 harness on ebay anyway. That will make my HiLites more powerful, AND when I do switch the Truck Lites, Ill have a harness with steady voltage that wont make them flicker

There's a 'plug & play' H4 harness for the JK? Would it work with DRL's?

I thought the KC HiLiTES H4 conversion kit came with (2) housings, (2) H4 lamps, and (2) H13 to H4 pigtail harnesses.....

It does. The previous poster is claiming there is an H4 harness for the JK. The KC ones are adapter harnesses, plug into the existing H13. I'd want to see what people's experiences are with them before I do anything.

What's the difference between an H4 harness and an H13 to H14 adapter harness? Don't both end up plugging into the H4 lamp?

More power to the headlights with the H4 harness.
