how can I get uconnect to stop announcing my text messages

I like that it announces the phone calls through the system but I cannot stand it interrupting my music to go through their whole speech of "new sms message from name to respond to this...blah blah blah" Especially getting multiple texts it is seriously annoying. how can I stop uconnect from doing this for texts while still keeping it for calls.

Simple:
1) press and release the Uconnect phone button and say "setup, incoming SMS message announcement".
2) the prompt will tell you that it's on, would you like to turn it off. yes

Send a message via AIM to Argent Send a message via Yahoo to Argent
its even more annoying when you don't use the stock messaging app so it proceeds to tell you how you can get Uconnect to read the message back to you

Will be shutting this off when I get back in the Jeep! Thanks!

What about replying to a massage. Is there way to change the preset massages to add your own?

What type of phones do you guys have? I have an Iphone 4s it does not interrupt me, nor can I respond to texts. Is there a way for my Iphone to respond to texts?

iPhones will not work with the system. They use a totally different system for incoming texts than android.

There's no way to change the wording of the prerecorded messages. They were chosen too help keep the message short and if you were able to say a text similar to what you would type in, then your attention would be more on the message and possibly not on the road.
I have times when I need to reply to a text with more information than the generic messages offer, so I'll pull over for a moment when it safe for me to do so, then insert the message into my phone and send it. If I am expecting a reply back that may require me to add more to the message again, I'll just wait for the reply and then send it. Once I'm done then I continue my drive. I know that this may sound like a pain, but it's much safer than trying to text while driving (which is something that really blows me away to see, someones head looking down at their phone trying to text on the freeway and going 40 mph or less not to mention the occasional weave into another lane).

THANK YOU FOR THIS POST!!! I'm an idiot. I tried to turn it off a million times with the regular voice command button and kept getting "misrecognition" or switching my radio station before I realized that I should try it by hitting the phone button

Funny thing is, I'd be okay with it if it actually told me who they were from - but for some reason mine doesn't see the name. Works fine on incoming calls, but all I get is it telling me "No number available, press uconnect phone button" etc.

ok, so a silly question. You did mean "massage" here and not message, is this correct? If so then that only comes with the more expensive Uconnect systems.

This issue is only with CDMA networks such as Sprint & Verizon:

There are 2 reasons that can cause this issue:
1) If the network or phone doesn't send a (+) in front of the phone number for the country code.
2) If the phone doesn't send the phone number to Uconnect for the senders id.
Below is a short trace from a Motorola HD MAXX on Verizon showing that the phone didn't send the phone number at all. The phone only sent the message that there is an incoming text message but not from who, there is also a warning that can be read by the person reading the trace:

I'd like to be notified, but not with the long-winded narration of exactly how to read the message (which is actually incorrect on mine). Is there an option for a shorter notification?

My system says "Incoming text message from... no number available (stupid Verizon). Press the U-Connect phone button and say 'Text Message' to read."

In actuality, I have to say "Read Text Message" to get it to work. What idiot does the quality assurance on this crap?

It's funny - I found a much easier way to deal with this. Just be a miserable bastard - nobody will want to text you!

Works like a charm for me!

HOLY WALL OF TEXT!

So yeah, I'm assuming it's because I'm on Verizon, then. That's just crappy programming, is what that is.

Is that a log from alogcat or something, or something being dumped from your uconnect (assuming you have the ability to read it)

With access to that much internal cellphone data, I'm starting to get REALLY curious as to where you work!

I know, if you told me then you'd have to kill me...

It's Docklight and the trace is an SCI trace between the phone and Uconnect. The data is the output from the Uconnect module and with just a few things that I've been told that Uconnect looks for in certain instances. I'm no SW or techy kind of person but I get lucky sometimes and can see where an issue is. I don't always know why there's an issue but like in this particular case, I've done enough bugging some of my contacts that they give me a little input and I work with that. I really don't know how to read all of the trace, I just look it over till I think that I have found something and ask mote P.I.T.A questions.
I remember the first time that I saw the SCI trace in action and was totally blown away as to how much actually is constantly going on between a phone and Uconnect (or any other BT device).
I do believe though that there may be something in the works for this issue, I just can't say for sure as of right now.

So yeah, I'm assuming it's because I'm on Verizon, then. That's just crappy programming, is what that is.

Is that a log from alogcat or something, or something being dumped from your uconnect (assuming you have the ability to read it)

I work inside a small dimly lit room with padded walls and occasionally get to have visitors. But I really do hate the jacket they make me sleep in.

Do they let you have mail deliveries? We should all chip in and send you some cookies or something for all the wonderful technical explanations!

They used to let me receive pies and cakes until that time they were going to sneak a piece of the pecan pie and the upside down cinnamon apple cake, they found some hacksaw blades, a chisel, hammer, and a few other tools. Now they'll only let me get cookies no larger than 3" inches in diameter, 4" square or a 3"x 5" rectangle. For some reason they don't like other geometric figures.
