How did you get rid of your stock wheels and tires?

I'm close to pulling the trigger on a new set of wheels and tires for my 2011 Sport. Currently, it's equipped with the stock Wrangler tires and the factory 17" alloy wheels. They only have 7,500 miles on them, and they're nearly mint.

I don't want to keep them after I have them replaced, but I know there's value in the stock items, and I don't want someone taking me to the cleaners when I sell them.

The most logical (and convenient) thing to me would be to somehow sell them to the folks who install my new tires, but I can see a tire shop trying to low-ball the price.

A ton of you guys on the forum have replaced your stock wheels and tires. Can you guys share with me the methods you used to get rid of them - and possibly how much you got for them?

left mine at the shop

To be fair though, even with only 6K miles on em, I had 3 with tire plugs (one had 3 plugs in it, 5 plugs total), and one with a rip in the sidewall, so they were more like well-treaded go-cart bumpers than anything else, and I already have a set of rims lying around, and a second set would put my wife over the falls

craigs list would be best way so you can find local and not ship. i see wheels alone for 500 a set and wheels tires for 1k-1200. I think its kind of high but at least this gives you ideas were to start. I'd say start at a grand see if you get any bites and if its a TJ guy who wants them charge 2k

I have a set in my basement of (5) off a 2012, with 1500 miles on them. Put them on craigslist and both jeep forums with no success. Try selling them to your local dealership.

Sold mine on craigslist in 2 days also. $600 for 5 with 3000 miles on them, including the tpms. I probably could have gotten a little more for them but I just wanted them gone.

What there worth and what you can get for them are two very far apart prices. Look at it this way, you got rid of them for better wheels, Mickey Thompson 17" rims for example are 150 a pop. So 750 for five of them. They far exceed factory rims and have better offset for bigger tires. And the SRA goodyears, you cant give them away. I know these wheel combos with tires have sold.for 1200 on ebay etc.... But if you dont want to sit on em, sell em cheep. You got notjing in em anymore. Thats the way I look at it. That being said, I havent decided if I want rubicon wheels and rims or aftermarket, since Im not going to be going big on my jeep.

I got several hits off of my Craigslist post and a few forums that I put them on. Ultimately sold them to a local guy who contacted me through one of my forum ads

I sold them locally using one of the local websites. There were some others selling the same pkg and I priced them accordingly so I was in the range

There was one asking as High as $1000 and one as low as $450. The tire wear was the determining factor on the price.

Mine were brand new and I listed them for $750 and ended up selling them for $700 to the first person who called. I placed the ad on Saturday and they were sold on Sunday in less than 24 hours.

I had removed the TPMS. Also, I wanted them gone ASAP and so I priced them to move.

Tried mine (5 - 18" Sahara wheels/tires) on EBay & Craigslist. Took awhile but eventually sold them to a guy off Clist for $500. They were mint & the tires only had 500 miles on them, but holding out for a couple extra bucks wasn't worth it to me since I was using the $$ to put toward my new wheels/tires.

The local market is always going to determine where your selling point should be, so do your homework & research before you list. I originally listed mine for $900 which I thought was fair price, but eventually I realized that several similar items sold in my area for half that. Don't give them away, just be realistic.

See what kind of interest you get off Clist type sites - I had a guy meet me at the tire shop when I was having my new wheels/tires put on, and he took/bought them right there, so it was easiest for all parties involved (especially me). If you are honest about what you are trying to do, and even offer to cover the cost of having them put on his jeep (which isn't much), that convience may get you more $$ in the long run.

Left my low-mile Sahara silver painted 18-inch and Bridgestone Duelers at the independent Jeep shop that did my leveling and new wheels/tires. Got trade-in of $800 on the set of 5. Good deal all around, I got as much as I could get on Craigs List without creepy listers coming to my house, and the shop gets a nice set they can turn around and make a few hundred bucks.

Gave my stock tires with 2000 miles on them to a young couple who needed tires for their truck and couldn't afford them.

I'm considering new rims and tires. Where are the TPMS sensors and how do you remove them? Is there any way to bypass that low tire indicator light when you put new rims and tires on? Thanks alot.

I know some folks on here buy the AEV Procal module and use it to disable the TPMS altogether. Myself, I have not made plans to do that, so I will probably be plagued by the warnings until I address it. I think the stock sensor expects the tires to run at 35PSI, but I'm already hearing the tires I just bought should ideally be run around 30PSI. I'm assuming this will trigger the TPMS.

As for the location of the TPMS, someone smarter than me can help you there. All the guy at Discount Tire could tell me is that they are located on the inside of the wheel somewhere. I don't know enough to even know if that's true.

I'm having my TPMS moved to the new wheel set when it's installed. I'm not sure why, though. I'm sure it will drive me crazy, and I'lll have to disable it.

They will either be a block the valve stem is attached to, or will be mounted on the inside of the rim with a long ass hose clamp or zip tie

I'm long-gaming it, leaving tinypieces of my tires everywhere I go until they are worn out.
At that point I'll sell off the wheels and get all new shoes.

I listed mine on Craigslist and here and wound up selling to a forum member who was local. Clist went two weeks with no interest then I started get 2-3 calls/day so youd have to be patient sometimes. In the end, I sold mine on the cheap end (I think) but after seeing some frustration from others trying to sell theirs, I just didn't feel like waiting so I could squeeze every penny out of them. Bottom line, you arent likely to get close to their true value even if you wait (imo) so pick a price where youd legitimately think they are cheap if you were the one buying and list them accordingly.

I listed them here, one other forum, and Craig's list. A few hits from the forums, but about 5:1 hits from Craig's list.

Sold on Craig's list for $450 with about 1300 miles. 17" Goodyear Wrangler wheels. No TPMS sensors.

I should have added the price I got...$500 for 5 Cooper Discoverer ATRs on 16" stock alloys. No sensors, just over 1000 miles.
