I use Winamp, you can have multiple playlists sync to the USB devices or any phones connected as USB device. And it will write the playlist files to it so the radio can pick the lists up. I'm not an iTunes user so to speak. I used Windows Media Player to sync, but forgot what reason I stopped using that. There should be a bunch of other music player software can do it.

But I prefer if the radio allows me to select by folder because the radio doesn't support Unicode rendering the playlist useless for some files. It can neither display the Unicode text (which is expected in that kind of old LCD display) nor read Unicode file names in the playlist files even I saved the playlist files as UTF-8. The only way I can play files with Unicode filename is by All Song, Artist and Album (it shows as **** so not feasible) or by Genre.

That's the only reason I'm thinking I should upgrade to an aftermarket player.

For those of you with iTunes on MacOS X, i can confirm that PlaylistExport (App Store Link) can export M3U with supported directory structure for UCI 130S/RES to USB (format it as FAT in Disk Utility).

I was looking at doing this through automator (you'd need to normalize the path for each song exported in the iTunes-generated M3U) but this app does it very well. $5 well spent.

Figured I'd add a comment about this. After reading this thread a while ago I downloaded DoubleTwist for my Mac (they make a Windows flavor too) and it works flawlessly with my USB drive and does so for free. It's a bit slow reading the iTunes folder and the USB drive but I've had no issues synching my playlists. Though I did fine that when I wanted to remove some it didn't clean up and was easier to nuke the USB drive and then update. Though the app was developed for Droid users it works equally well for USB drives.

Kinda late update to this thread that found while searching for playlist info...

Anyway, just bought a 2015 JK with 430N and all I had to do was copy AAC M4a files directly from my iTunes folder (Mac) onto a USB, keeping the exact same directory structure and the whole lot appeared on my 430N HDD in exactly the same categorization and it seems entirely happy with playing the .M4a files. Seemed like a no-brainer, maybe they updated something on the '15 but despite saying it need MP3, it plays M4a's just fine...

Robert is your fathers brother... as they say!

77kick10 next so it doesn't suck quite so bad...

Thanks for posting this! My old jeep (97 TJ) had an aftermarket system installed by the previous owner and I absolutely loved having my favorite tunes accessible on a USB drive. I'm looking forward to having my best Jeeping playlists available again on my new Willys JK. But my music was kind of disorganized on the USB drive, it was all just kind of thrown on there with no rhyme or reason. I'm going to try to make another thumb drive with better organization this time so I can have a little better control of my content instead of just "shuffle device" all the time

Plenty of good tips here, I'm bookmarking this thread for future reference. Thanks !

OK, I've had the jeep for about a week now and having problems getting the USB drive to play like I want. For example, if I select a particular artist, it will play a song by that artist. When the song ends, it will repeat the same song again, over and over and over. I know full well that I have multiple songs on the USB by that artist, so shouldn't it play all that artist's songs in sequence? Same thing happens if I choose album...I know I have the whole album on there, but it will play one song then repeat it ad infinitum and never play the rest of the album. I also would like to just randomly shuffle the whole USB collection, but I can't seem to make that work either.

I suspect this is a problem with how I have the music organized on the USB drive more so than the device itself. I have the 130 RES unit with connectivity package. I copied these files directly from another USB I had, and that USB played flawlessly on the Pioneer head unit in my old jeep. Any suggestions on how I should organize my USB and in what format? Will I have to run it through a music management program to organize it properly? If so, which one?

I think I created the old USB with iTunes, if that makes any difference.
