How do I copy or create playlists on USB Flashdrive 2012 Sport S 130 RES Uconnect

I have an extra 16 GB flash drive that I copied 3000 songs to. It plays just fine through the USB port in my 2012 Sport S. What I need to do though is organize it better. Anyone know how I can have my jeep recognize it by artist or setup playlist?

Thanks

Joshua

There's a member a couple post down that found an app for this. I haven't had time to look into it but he says it works great.

Here is the process that I used.

1. In itunes convert all songs to AAC (.m4a) format
2. Create playlists in itunes
3. Export playlists using the settings in the attached image.
4. Copy the contents of the itunes export folder to your flash drive
5. After you insert the flash drive into your usb slot play with the buttons. On my 130 RES the 1 button will list the playlists. The tuner dial allows me to scan through and pressing it will select the playlist. I haven't realy played with teh other buttons.

Very cool, thanks for the information on this. did you have to use the program that was listed on the other thread? Do the songs have to be in the mp4 format only. I have mine set for mp3 in case I want to use them for other mp3 players. (My music files are in my windows media player also) If I try to copy them to an mp3 player that my kids have, it doesn't seem to work if it's mp4. Thanks again for the help.

you can copy mp3's but since the do not contain album info they get grouped into one big playlist. the only way I got it to work was creating an AAC (m4a) verions in itunes. Remember that when you create the AAC you still keep the original MP3.

And that screen shot is from the software in the other thread.

When you copied the songs over did you just paste in all the songs onto 1 folder? I have a USB stick that I use in my Jeep and all I did was create folders on the USB drive for each playlist/genre/album/etc that I wanted to go through and that worked fine..didnt have to mess with itunes or any other media player or software

EDIT: I guess this isn't working for everyone.. if you haven't tried it this way yet I'd say go for it before getting any software or anything

How come I don't have a USB port on my radio....it has a MP3 input jack that works great, but nothing else that I can see?

Above the input Jack there should be a cover that flips open to reveal the USB port.

Nope. Must have came out later or with a different radio. This one is Sirius, no GPS and says 6 disks, MP3, and WMA. Not even sure what they mean by WMA.

The USB port on my 2012 RES130 is inside (towards the bottom)the storage box between the driver & passenger seat. Its not on the stereo head unit.

Not there either and thinking that this might have came about with the new interior of 2011. Maybe someone else with a prior model will chime in here.

My build sheet says....AJPP Power Convenience Group....and assume that's what you're referring to. In fact there's not a lot that this Jeep doesn't have, except for some the extreme Rubicon stuff.
Like I said, someone needs to chime in with the years prior to 11 or maybe 12, as I'm not sure who has what.

The Connectivity group is a different package than the Power convience Group

copied from another thread:

AAJ CONNECTIVITY GROUP (all models)

Includes:
CHROME/LEATHER WRAPPED SHIFT KNOB (CVC) (Sport only)
LEATHER WRAPPED STEERING WHEEL (SCV)
REMOTE USB PORT (RSX)
UCONNECT VOICE COMMAND W/BLUETOOTH (RSP)
VEHICLE INFORMATION CENTER (LAZ)

The Remote USB Port also comes with the 730n nav radio.(maybe the 430n also, but I could not find the info)

Hope this helps.

OK, so assuming they had such an animal in 2010, the problem lies with not having the AAJ conn. group.

Little update. I was able to get all of the album info if I used MP3's and copied them. I used the following file structure \\Artist\Album\song. I copied all of the music to the USB drive and then opened it with windows media player to make sure the metedata was still there. as for playlist once I export them from itunes I need to modify the M3u file with note pad. below is the format I used in the M3u file.

Metallica\_..And Justice for All\The Shortest Straw.mp3
Metallica\_..And Justice for All\One.mp3
Metallica\_..And Justice for All\Eye of the Beholder.mp3
Metallica\_..And Justice for All\Blackened.mp3

This follows the file structure of your flash drive.

In 2010 and earlier, there wasn't the USB connector. This was when Apple went from the Firewire to USB. So the first USB connectors were in 2011 vehicles.

Hey everyone I found a really good solution to this... I have a 2012 Jeep Wrangler with the USB port and I couldn't get any of the stuff above to work for me.. But I did find a solution.

I have this application that I use called DoubleTwist that I use to sync my music from Itunes to my Android phone.. You can do the same with a USB drive..

Install the desktop client.. Go to the menu and import your Itunes playlists. Then plug in your USB drive and it will show up unde the Devices on the left hand side. Then go through and you can choose your playlists you want to sync..

It uploads the music and the m3u file to the drive and works perfectly.

Enjoy!

What if I already have a bunch of music loaded? Is there a way to move multiple files at once? I use iTunes agent to cheat my iTunes into thinking that my flash drive is an iPod...not stealing any music, just transferring what I bought. The problem is that every artist creates its own folder and now I have 60 folders, I can reorganize one at a time but that will take forever.
I could wipe my hard drive again, but that is a pain because some of my files won't upload from the flash drive, I have to burn them as an audio CD from iTunes and then let my 430N convert and store.
Even if I delete and start over, there is no way to create playlists....is there? If I create a folder as a playlist then I will have duplicate songs if I had the same song in different lists...right?
Can I plug in a USB cable and connect my laptop to reorganize the folders? Anyone tried this?

Don't know if this is the same for yours, but this is from the 2013 owner's manual and works fine for me:

In List mode, the radio PRESET buttons are used as
shortcuts to the following lists on the iPod
 or
external USB device.

Preset 1 – Playlists

Preset 2 – Artists

Preset 3 – Albums

Preset 4 – Genres

Preset 5 – Audiobooks

Preset 6 – Podcasts

Pressing a PRESET button will display the current
list on the top line and the first item in that list on the
second line.

It's not something you need iTunes for. You just need software that preserves the metadata in the converted mp3. If your mp3 file doesn't have that info in metadata you have to manually add it to the file using an audio program that has that capacity.

I have a workflow that doesn't include iTunes at all. The metadata is preserved and I can throw all files onto the root folder of the USB stick and the head unit does the organizing. It filters fine by artist, album, genre, etc.
