Hi Batson35,

I just came across your post as I have the same problem after upgrading the stereo. I found this in the manual that might explain why we can't get the compass to calibrate:

"If the vehicle is equipped with a Chrysler
UconnectTM gps (Navigation Radio), the NAV system will
provide the compass direction, and the variance and
calibration menus will be unavailable. The compass will
perform accurately, based on GPS signals instead of the
Earth’s magnetic field."

So I think that there is a circuit somewhere in the stereo system that prevents the compass to work correctly. The radio I installed is the Chrysler 6 CD changer with UConnect.
What stereo do you have? Maybe that solves the mystery?

I think those directions were written for the 2-dr. The JKU qualfies as a "Large Metallic Object" all by itself...

My compass is all jacked up 180 degrees off. East-West is fine but North-South is 180 degrees off. I have calibrated it multiple times to no effect. I'll be driving south and the compass says North. Stock 130 stereo with uconnect. What gives?

Well, I have given up on mine. The compass in the Jeep isn't that great to begin with as it only displays vague directions anyway. I will probably order one from here:
Ritchie Navigation - Home

and install it in or on the dash.

I'm glad none of you guys are using a compass in an airplane. God knows where you would end up.

I'm gonna have the dealer look at it when I get my oil changed this month.
