How Far Does Your Temp Control Knob Turn????

I have already posted about my A/C not cooling as well as it used to, but I was just wondering how far the temp knob is supposed to turn before I go back to the stereo place and complain. My temp knob only turns to the 5th red mark (there are 10). If it is supposed to turn all the way to the 10th red mark that means that the knob was put back on incorrectly. If the knob is maxing out on the 5th red mark the way that it is installed then, I've been thinking about this all day, it is possible that I am not able to turn it all the way down to the 1st blue mark which is why I am not getting cold air. I have been trying to get the knob off but I dont want to break it trying to figure out how to take it off so......
