How many "car guys"

So a Wrangler generally is kind of an "enthusiast" vehicle, a "dream car" for some folks. But the JK is the newest of the bunch, and often "car guys" aren't so into having one of the latest and greatest. I am just wondering how many of you JK owners count yourselves as car guys generally? Also, just into older Jeeps or other cars as well?

I'll start - 2013 JKUR for daily usage, 65 GTO in the garage for banging gears, and just picked up a 72 Chevy K10 4x4 for truck usage.

I'm with you. Always had a classic vehicle from GTO's to Corvettes, but currently a 65 Mustang GT. Hard for me to believe at times but my wife actually introduced me to Wranglers. We have two, an 89 YJ and a 10 Rubicon. The Mini Cooper also works for gas mileage. They actually handle pretty well too. It's not trail rated though.

I'm a car guy via my love for auto racing, so I love the latest and greatest race and production cars. That being said, there is a spot in my heart for old cars, I especially love 30's vintage cars. There's a sleekness to the body work that has rarely been replicated since. 1930's Ford, Benz, Rolls Royce, Bugatti all have such beauty that very few modern cars can replicate

I always tell people that I grew up on a farm....except that instead of animals, we had a stable of muscle cars and exotics, my Dad loved and owned them all.

I am a car nut. Muscle cars mostly but anything with 4 wheels interests me. I just sold my 79 Mustang 5.0 over the summer (horsepower on a budget) but my current truck is faster so the Mustang went bye bye. Before that I had a 70 Nova SS BB 396/375hp 4 speed numbers car that was in show condition when I sold it. I also hepled my brother build his 67 Nova ll. Someday when time allows I will have another Mustang.

Yep, Count me "car crazy"

Driveway is full of uninteresting right now.... 12 Ford Explorer Limited for wife, 05 Jeep Wrangler Sport for me, 02 GMC Sonoma extracab (grampaws truck, RIP), but



1994 Audi S4 (full sized, 4000lb, 300hp 2.2liter, 20 valve 5cyl turbo, quattro, manual). Was referred to as a supercar when it was in production (only 3650 reported to be imported between 92 and 95)



85 Bertone. mid engine, Italian from an coachbuilder. (I have another of these undergoing race prep in the garage, and a third in a friends pole barn waiting for a uno turbo swap.)

I also have a 68 mustang conv under restoration for Mrs. bluevr6, and she also has:

I have owned sports cars for nearly 20 years. Mustangs and camaros mostly. A big fan of speed...however can't fit the young ones in the back seat and am figuring on the jeep opening up new avenues of adventure not just for me but for the family as a whole.
When the jeep is paid off and college expenses too for that matter...I have a 2025 ish v8 mustang with my name on it....but plan to keep he jeep.

Yep,,, car guy here..

1960 Ford Falcon 428cj nitrous 850 hp
2002 Corvette, supercharged 622 hp
M923a2 turbocharged, "stock for now"
2012 Ford F250 turbocharged 400 hp
2007 Ford Focus "bone stock" Wife's car will stay stock.
2014 JKUR "bone stock" except for the Ace rock rails.

If you have netflix streaming, I recommend you watch a movie called "Love The Beast." As a falcon owner, you will enjoy it (great movie regardless.)

(This is NOT a hollywood movie, it's a documentary.)

I have always been a car guy. Rebuilt and upgraded my '65 GTO engine, suspension, engine compartment. Owned it or 12 years. Love jeeps for the mountains though, and as a DD. Had an '06 LJ, now shopping for a JKU because I want the extra doors for the little one. But if it just up to me, would probably just want my LJ back. Definitely more of an "enthusiast" vehicle IMO.

Off-topic I guess but are those the chrome cragars? Still have that car and do you know wheel and tire sizes and backspacing? I am finishing up odds and ends like wheels, tires, gauges and such on my goat.


Also ... all these 4x4 guys and no other classic trucks? cmon now :)

I bought my 2013 JKU because I wanted a fun vehicle that I could drive in the winter as well as another fun warm weather car for the days when my wife takes the Z3. Here is a pic of my other dream car.

I am certainly not a mechanic but I do consider myself a car guy. My "other car" is a 2000 BMW Z3 Roadster. I bought my 2013 JKU because I wanted a fun vehicle that I could drive in the winter as well as another fun warm weather car for the days when my wife takes the Z3. Here is a pic of my other dream car.

Likewise, I'm somewhat of a car guy and my other ride is a Zed, in my case a 2010 Z4. It's nice having a choice of convertibles; definitely a First World problem!

I'm a car guy and have had many. I recently sold my "built" 2008 Dodge Charger Daytona. Great car, but really limited by the rear end gearing which isn't cheap to tinker with. Not sure what I'll grab next. I've been going back and forth between an early 1993 Mustang GT or Cobra and a Porsche 911/964. The GT is an easy hobby, the 911 not so much. I like 60's and 70's cars, but I don't have the time and space and tools I once had to really enjoy them. The Porsche is probably a bad idea given that... Maybe a Pantera would be a compromise?

Some very cool cars and trucks in this thread. I really expected to see a bunch of CJs. I guess maybe most folks are like me and figure their JK satisfies their Jeep kick and do something a little different if they have another vehicle.

Still, I do spend way too much time on Craigslist looking at CJs!

Just asking because in another thread someone got their a$$ chewed for calling a jeep a car!
Yeah, that seems to happen once a day around here or more. Someone's pet peeve I guess.

I can only speak as a car guy that likes jeeps, but I like jeeps because they are one of the only modern vehicles that still supports the shade tree mechanic. I like working on my own vehicles, but the major manufacturers have all but engineered the hoods shut on most new vehicles. There is still a thriving aftermarket for tinkering with your jeep, as well as abundant community support like this forum. Hell, jeep even gives you all the error codes by turning your key and popping the codes in google, no OBD port scanner to buy. Try learning to work on your Honda online and see if you ind anything other than how I install a fart can or NAAAAWWWZzzzzzz.

MB E55 AMG and a BMW 328i - traded the BMW for the Wrangler Unlimited (Sahara). Spent a lot of time on what was going to be the new winter beater - initially I thought the G-500 was what I wanted, best I found was a 2002 for 35K - so the Wrangler was an easy decision. The thing that sold me was the Wrangler is a cult car (of sorts) like the e46, easy to work on, and tons and tons of options for mods. Thought I wanted the Rubicon at first, but those are al upgrades I would end up throwing out anyway. Its only been a few weeks and a lot of the stock jeep stuff is garbage (esp lights / electronics), but I love working on cars and the wrangler is perfect for that - easy to work on, tons of options and drives well. My only complaint is its slow compared to what I'm accustomed to - supercharger can fix that :)

Possibilities are endless. Pretty sure I made a good choice, even if there are no massaging seats.

You will loose the need for speed when driving your Jeep. The white knuckle adreline rush will be replace by a simple smile. If you really want an adrenaline rush in a Jeep, drive a YJ at 90 MPH in the rain on a busy 2 lane road.
