My last Jeep I ran without carpets. I said I wanted my Rubicon to be quiet. I also said I wanted to stay with stock suspension and that didn't work out either. My dog sheds so much and I want to pull them plus he threw up on the carpet the other day. They might be coming out this weekend.
JKU bought in January, had carpets out for a couple months now. Took them out after first mud hole deeper than floorboard when was running naked. Took em out to clean smelly mud out of them, never saw the need to put them back in lol
Mine is 3 weeks old, but at some point I will rip them out and bedline the floor... I probably won't get around to it though until the carpet is ripped or worn out or something.
There's more heat which is good in the winter, not so much in the summer.
Noise. I see you have a manual, my last Jeep was a manual and the noise was so bad with the carpet out and top ON that you couldn't even hear to talk on the phone. YMMV I hope my manual was the exception not the rule.
The auto is quiet enough either way, little more noise but tolerable.
Pulling the carpet completely out was my second mod, right after removing the back seat! The floors do get a little warm when driving, but not that bad. I'm usually topless all summer, and the swirling wind makes it un-noticeable.
After one trip of beach driving "naked" and 2 hours to get the sand out of the carpet I pulled it and never looked back. That was two years ago. Like others have said there is noticeable heat, but tolerable. I have a manual that is topless and doorless most of the Spring/Summer/Fall so really cannot speak to extra noise. LOL
How easy is it to remove the carpets and put them back in? Say, for example, you want to take them out for a day at the beach or on the trails. Can the floorboard carpeting be pulled out for the day then easily (relatively) reinstalled?
Removing the carpet isn't all that hard, especially if it isn't already soaking wet.
The first time you take it out I think that there are a couple of spots you need to tear on some perforations around the front seats.
Otherwise, in a JKU, the driver's floor pan has one piece. The passenger's floor pan has one piece. Under the front seats and the floor pan in front of the rear seats is one piece. There are three parts to the luggage area. You'll need to remove the three bolts that hold in the sub to get one of them out. That's the only thing you need tools for.
All told, about 10 minutes of work to get them out of the Jeep. Then you have a huge pile of carpet you need to put someplace. I put mine in the basement for the summer. It just avoids problems with the carpet getting wet when the top is left down.
This may be the dumbest question of all time, so feel free to post shame me... but after you remove the carpets, what do you do with the exposed wires?
My carpets are constantly wet, they are molding, and pretty sure I'm growing plants in them. But the exposed wires have kept me from pulling it.

Pulled mine this fall and put in monstaliner. Never will go back to nasty stinky carpet.
