Just picked up our new 16 JK 75th Sahara. Curious how many here installed a hood lock? Mine will be garaged, but will be out often.

Thanks

I think it depends on where you live. If I lived in a small town or out on a farm I wouldn't worry too much but I live in a city of 1.3 million and it seems like at least 10% of them are thieving A-holes. So I have a Mopar hood lock on our Jeep. Same reason I have a hardtop. An old boss of mine drove a convertible for a while but after the 4 time his top was cut and his car was broken into he sold it. Some people are a waste of skin.

A few weeks after picking up my JKUR almost 3 years ago I installed a Mopar hood lock. The hood bounce caused by the air wall in front of oncoming trucks was really unsettling to me and the lock solved that problem.

From the day I picked up the Jeep I used the Mopar front cover (bra) to keep bugs off the front end during the months of farm production here in Southeast Kansas. Then came the time I failed to unlock the hood latch before installing the front cover. Hey, I'm 75 and make a mistake from time to time. Mmmmm, can't unlock the hood lock covered by the bra to partially remove the bra to unlock the hood!!! :whacky: Finally worked loose a few bra clips behind and to one side of the winch sitting pretty close to the grille and worked a hand up inside to unlock the hood.

Perfect solution: Installed Rampage locking hood latches. All problems solved. Gives me security, firm latch down, no complications.

I live in a big city so I have lots of locks on my JK with hardtop. Bolt hood lock, wheels locks on all 5, chain with Bolt padlock on spare, and locks on the door hinge bolts. I've had issues with theft in the past, but not with this one yet. I'm sure there'll be a day soon though...

Hey! Just saw your old post when searching for info on locks. Did you buy it with all the locks or did you install them yourself?

My dealership quoted me $230 CAD plus labor for just the hood lock kit but I found what seems to me the same lock kit plus door and wheel locks on amazon for cheaper. Wondering if the piece of mind in having them install it is worth the $?

I just had the battery and engine harness stolen from my 2016 jeep wrangler sahara. I'm new to the jeep life and didn't even think this could ever happen. Won't make that mistake again.

Thanks for any help!!

I always intended, but never seemed to get around to, putting one on my YJ when new. So, with that notion still pinging around in the back of my mind, it was one of the very first things I did on my JK.

I got the Mopar one, and a rivet tool from HF with a coupon.

Mine was on in under 100 miles. BOLT hood lock (keyed to ignition key) is the best bang for the buck at under $60 bucks shipped. Look at it this way, a battery replacement will cost more. I also added the Mopar locking gas cap (keyed to ignition key) and a BOLT hitch lock also keyed to ignition key.

Bolt Hood lock is definitely the one to go with, works great and its half the price of the Mopar one with the exact same functionality (typical Mopar marking up prices of parts ridiculously high).

Fun story, my JK actually got stolen about 2 months ago and I had a Bolt Hood lock installed. Once they drove my Jeep away I think they threw my keys out (perhaps to smite me even more or something) and they probably ended up going "Oh, crap, we need a key to unlock this hood." They tried picking the lock, crowbars, and even ripped the grille off and were still unable to open the hood (turns out they could have just used the ignition key, lol - did I mention criminals are generally stupid?).

So in short, I was pretty happy I installed a lock. It was severely beat up and unusable after the theft, but I already have a new one installed :thumb:

I have a bolt lock that will be installed as soon as I get home after taking delivery.

My SO had her battery stolen twice from her Grand Cherokee when she lived in Chicago. The bolt is a small cost to deter that even once.
