How many miles have you driven after the fuel light came on?

OK, I can not remember when the last time was I ran out of gas, but I was pretty young and my old boss told me once, it cost just as much to keep your tank on the top half as it does the bottom half. But I do find myself in a hurry and let my fuel level fall pretty low even to the point the low fuel light comes on, then it is panic time. So I was wondering how far some of you have pushed it, hopefully not in the literal since . Maybe I can get a feel for how far I can go once that light is activated. Thanks, Larry

I watch my miles remaining indicator on my JK once the light comes on. It usually turns on when I have 40-45 miles remaining in my tank. Not sure if the other Jeep models have this or not but I like it.

I've never ran out of gas. I never let my jeep go below a 1/4 because I've put it in my head that a 1/4 is empty thanks to my old man.

I've gone 30 miles so far with that light on and didn't run out. it comes in waaaaaay early. I run it till that light comes on, then fill it up before I get home.

I don't have a fancy light in my YJ the farthest I've gotten was to 260 miles, which was when the gas gauge hit rock bottom and I was too scared to pass another station

someone stole my fuel a few weeks ago. I emptied the lawn mower into the Jeep to get to a station. she quit running in the lot so I coasted to a pump. 2 door JK's hold 19 gallons by the way

holy sh*t I thought my $60 hit that day was bad. you must've drained your YJ when gas was $5 a gallon lol

EDIT:I mean TJ. I'm done posting tonight I can't keep my act together

EDIT AGAIN: i lied...hey Vaultz, is that a pic XJ?

Thanks for the replies! Sounds like I have a 35-40 mile buffer, so at least I'm not clueless now.......... well about the gas thing anyway

I can't count the number of times I've run out of gas. In high school it happened on a weekly basis, me and my friends got real good at coasting.

In my JK, My light comes on at 5o miles remaining..I think it comes on so early because it starts to drop quickly on side streets driving as Opposed to highway driving

I have only run out of gas twice. Once in my 81 CJ 7, once in my 48 Willys. Neither of them had/have working fuel gauges. Usually check the tank before I leave but was in a hurry both times.

Okay so only one person answered this and they drove a tj, how many miles to a tank have you guys gotten in a JK. The most I have gotten to was about 200 and I had a quarter tank left, this just seems absurd to me since its a 19 gallon tank and supposed to get between 17 and 21 miles a gallon.

I was wondering how long this would take. I swear Sienfield comes into conversation everyday.

Filling up when the light comes on is for wimps. Wait until the display starts flashing LO FUEL and then go another 20 miles.

I managed to get my 10 Rubi to 315 miles on a tank, I was below E by a good amount but I still have about 1 or 1.5 gallons of gas left, but I usually get at least 60 miles with the light on and sometimes closer to 90 but that might just be because its a new car.
