Got my 2013 on Dec 1. Already has a couple chips and a rapidly expanding crack. I will try to make it until April if I can or I am bound to just have to replace the replacement with all the grit on the roads...
I got it with 2, 000 miles on it and it was already pitted up. I'm at 14, 000 now and I've about had it with the obstruction. I always seem to be driving directly into sun up or sun down. I will look into the warranty aspect of replacing it. Thanks for all your input. Sadly I'm glad I'm not alone in this pitted mess. Lol
Bumping this one up since there is a lot of discussion about pitted windshields. I've got 3 good size chips but all 3 are in the passenger side no in my direct line of sight so I don't think I'll have a claim there... yet. However, my windshield is horribly pitted, enough that I feel it's unsafe driving in the rain. Has anyone had any luck with this aspect of an insurance claim?
Doing? Well, I came off some back roads, gravel, hit the pavement, and was chucking to myself as I heard the rocks flying out from tires only to see one from the front tires coming back at me and put a large star on the windshield that spread right across the windshield from side to side by the time I got back to town. I was the only one on the road for miles.

'12 JK......none in a year and a half but, that being said I know that I just jinxed myself!
:happyyes:
I replaced a few windshields each on the last couple of Jeeps I've owned. But so far on my 2014 (2000 mi), no issues. This is the first one I've put a wind deflector on, maybe it's making a difference on the highway.
Because of rock chips, I replaced the windshield on my 2010 twice before trading for a 2013. 8 months now without one.
Of course. now is the time of year they happen because of the sand/grit that is spread onto some roads.
I don't drive motorways and high traffic roads and would have to drive a long way just to find one.
I do not tailgate.
I am not sure it is the verticality of the windshield either as I had just as many chips and cracks when I owned various Land Rovers previous to switching to Jeeps. (The new ones got way more expensive while Jeeps remained about the same price, but I digress)
ALL of the rock chips that I have gotten have come from oncoming traffic except one which I got as I drove under a bridge that was for another road (overpass, I think its called).
I am also unsure if we can blame our Jeeps glass quality since I have not really had more windshield replacements than anyone else here with any other vehicle.
If insurance is available for the glass - get it.
Here when a windshield is replaced or repaired one normally gets a free one year doesn't-matter-how-it-happened warranty from the place that installed it; so better to replace it after 11 months than 13 months!
I will tempt karma by adding that I have had my 2011 JK for three years and not replaced a windshield. I have a very small scuff that was caused by being behind a dump truck while entering a highway ramp. I watched the rock hurdle towards me in near slow-motion. That was over a year ago, and it has not cracked or run.
My father-in-law has been through four in his 2011. The windshield is so flat that the impact has no place to go but straight across the glass surface. If you drive on the highway with frequency, there is a good chance that you'll take a hit.
15 months, 21000 miles, on the original windshield. Had this thrown on for free at the dealer: http://www.dfisolutions.com/ . I have herd rocks hit pretty hard too. I just stroll in the dealer every 4 months and they "reapply" the stuff. I have never used rainx, as I never have had the need.
