How much can Premium soft top for Unlimited be folded down?

Sorry, don't know how to word this in the title. I've seen pics of factory soft tops and they are able to be laid down somewhat flat. I mean, not absolutely flat, but they can get folded and tucked in pretty well.

Now, it seems the buyer for the factory soft top flaked on me. He was offering $300 for it. Anyway, there seems to be another one offering $500 for a Premium soft top. But, I've seen pics of the Premium soft top folded down and it was hanging out everywhere. Can these be tucked and folded as flat as a factory soft top? I'm thinking no, but maybe I'm wrong.

I can't get mine folded tight or to lay flat. Lays just under the high mount brake light. The only thing I hate about it.

I recommend the premium, wouldn't trade ours. $500 is a good deal, unless the gaudiness of it folded down is too much for you.

It may not fold as tight, but the premium soft top is worth it for every other reason: noise, temperature, looks.

Here is my premium soft top folded and in a boot. Doesn't get much neater than this.

I'm interested too. How hard is it to get the top stowed away with this cover?

I use two of these velcro straps from home depot to wrap around my top when folded down. Keeps everything neat and low profile.

I have the same one. It's Rugged Ridge. http://www.amazon.com/Rugged-Ridge-1.../dp/B0039HD5TE

My premium top fits in there fine and I really like the clean look. I would snap a pic, but the rain won't stop tormenting me.

I think there are some threads on here with more information if you need it.

Yes, you get the premium OEM soft top as part of the dual top group.

In that pic, the rear window is still attached to the top, rolled up in a thin fleece blanket. We've never taken the back window out so far, but sure the top would fold significantly more compact than as shown, if it was removed.

I'm guessing for 4door top to fit under the cover shown here, the rear window would need to be removed, yes?

For what it's worth, you should always take the window out to protect it. It can fold/roll up like that, but it will get scratched or creased over time. But I would think to fit inside the boot it would definitely have to come out because it would be too thick. Several people have complained that the boot covers are way too tight already, with the premium OEM top, that with the window in it wouldn't fit.

When I put the top down, it's always in the boot. You can find them from most Jeep outfitters for about 60 bucks or Mopar for around double that.

They work great and look good. Plus, if you want to take the top completely off, you can put it in the boot first and then remove it - now it's easy to handle and protected.

I always spend a minute to clean both sides with plexis before rolling it up in the fleece, making sure it doesn't contact anything but the fleece. It actually still looks new after traveling many thousand miles likr this. The side windows and sides of the jeep on the other hand, have lots of limb streaks on them. I really should remove the sides when going down tight wooded trails....

I wonder if those covers shown here come in 2 & 4 door versions? Since the 4door would have more roof material to cover? If so, maybe the 2door crowd could leave their rear window in with a 4door version?

Yeah, I'm not sure that they differentiate between a two door/four door boot. That would be interesting.

I just take the whole top off and lay it in the garage. Fold the top down, unscrew four torx screws that are on the roll bar brackets and the frame and top pops off. Don't have to fight the top went you open the rear gate for access and it looks better

Just don't forget to get the roll bar brackets off his jeep. That seems to be the most commonly forgotten item.

That's the way mine was wrapped up when I bought it, too. Just peak inside & make sure it is indeed the Premium fabric. It'll be black on both sides. Make sure you get the windows as they aren't wrapped up inside as well as the door surrounds & all parts. Great price...I paid $750 for mine & it's only a 2 door!

Good point. I don't see an option for 4 door and my 2 door is pretty snug.

Will the roll bar brackets always be on the Jeep, rather than, say, boxed up? And, what tool(s) will I need to remove them from the Jeep?

Thanks Star!

re: roll bar brackets

No... what they usually tell you to do is if you've got the hard top on, you unscrew two torx T30 bolts that hold each of the two brackets on to the roll bar. Then you put the brackets someplace for safe keeping and screw the torx bolts back in, so they stay with the Jeep and don't get lost.

I think in some cases though, people left the bracket assemblies mounted to their Jeep's roll bars and actually unscrewed the soft top from the other side of the brackets. Seems like the hard way to do things and then you've always got extra pieces of metal sticking out of your roll bars, not doing anything -- but it's something to keep in mind, anyway. Your seller MAY need to remember to remove those and give them to you.

So, the object wrapped with the orange tape is the Premium soft top.

Then I may need to get the roll bar brackets from off the Jeep, each held in place by two T30 screws/bolts. If they're not on the Jeep, the seller would just have them laying around somewhere else?

He did mention the windows being boxed up. So, I'll need those boxes, too.

Now, the door surrounds: will those be on the Jeep too, or boxed up?
