How much for dealer (factory) warranty?

First I'd like to say HI I've been looking through old posts trying to educate myself on the Unlimited models. I'm planning to go to the dealership today to look at a 2010 Rubicon, and I'll hopefully be driving away with it if the price is right (hoping since the 2011 is out they will deal). How much extra is the Jeep extended warranty, and how good is the coverage? I'm trying to inform myself so if they shoot me a low price then try to make it up by overcharging for an extended warranty. Also any other quick advice? Thanks

I have used the following link to buy extended warranties before. I have always found them to be cheaper than the dealer. This time, I told the dealer about what I was doing and took the cost in with me. They said they would match the internet price. I decided not to go with an extended warranty at this time because I plan to trade again within the three year warranty period on my 2011 if the new engine comes out and is successful.

Here's the link:

Chrysler extended warranty, Factory backed extended warranties for Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler vehicles

I got the "Maximum care warranty" for 6yr/60,000 miles, that starts after the 3/36 factory-runs out and it was pretty close to $900 bucks-

That was in Oct '08

On my 2011, I paid around $2400 as well for the lifetime warranty. I bought it a couple weeks ago.

Thanks for the quick reply's. The dealer & I couldn't reach a deal on price for a 2010 4Dr Rubicon, but I did get a call back on an offer I made & am now the proud owner of a 2008 4Dr Rubicon with 22,200 miles, so the link to the Chrysler extended warranty is going to come in handy. Thanks again

Sounds like a nice jeep you should really enjoy it. I never buy the extended warranty when I purchase new. You can add the extended warranty any time later on. so I always wait to make sure I keep the vehicle longer than the factory warranty. I know a lot of people who buy the extended warranty and then trade it off before the factory warranty expires. So it end up a waste of money.

i am planning on buying an '11 or '12 rubicon this summer after i start my new job. i had thought about the lifetime warranty as i would like to keep the jeep for a long, long time. after reading several threads here and on other forums, i am wondering if the warranty is worth the paper it is printed on. it seems like if you add any lift, big tires, or bumpers to the jeep then the dealer is going to do everything possible to screw you on the warranty. modifying and building up a personalized jeep is what i am most excited about, but i am wary of wasting $2k on a lifetime warranty.

to each his own. I bought it, because I plan on keeping my Rubi for a long time, and I don't plan on doing that many mods.

MTH's link above covered it well. My two cents: The reason the price is all over the map ($2300 down to $600) is because dealers use the extended warranty as bait when negotiating the purchase of a new vehicle. I would sit down with the salesman, hammer out his best price, then tell him to knock off the price of the extended warranty. Tell him you don't want it at the end. In other words, kind of like calling his bluff in a poker game. They aren't worth it. Again, my 2 cents.

I did some research on extended warranties over the holidays and then made a couple of phone calls this morning. A lot of sites will asked for personal info (name, add, ph) before giving a quote. I skipped all of those. I found a few that didn't require any personal info, and this was the one with the best pricing I was able to locate GET YOUR FREE ONLINE QUOTE It is Wittrock Motors in Carroll, IA. There are various plan options that you can select from. I was interested in the Lifetime Maximum Care with $100 deductible. I called this morning and spoke with the Finance Mgr, Kevin Wittrock, and he confirmed the $1,900 as the total cost, with no hidden fees or taxes, as long as Chrysler didn't put out a general price increase. The plan and pricing are good any time up to 12 mths/12,000 miles, which ever comes first.

I then called the Finance Mgr at my selling dealer in Carson City, NV. He told me he would be happy to match the $1,900, but that was as low as he could go as the dealer's cost from Chrysler is $1,700.

Couple of things he confirmed for me. While all of the required maintenance naturally has to be performed at the required intervals, they do not have to have to be done at a dealership. Of course just make sure you keep receipts. The full lifetime warranty is not transferrable, however if I should decide to sell the vehicle prior to 7 years, any portion remaining up to that 7 years is transferrable (moot point for me since at 68 years old it will probably be my coffin).

Hope this helps any one that might be considering an extended warranty. I wish I had the Lifetime Warranty on my 1994 Grand Cherokee. Overall it's been a great vehicle, but has cost me over $5,000 in repairs in the last three years, and I'm only going to be able to sell it for $3,500.

The price difference is due to the difference in length of the ext warranty as well as what it covers. Lifetime max care is going to cost more than an added care.

Generally salespeople do not get paid on the profits generated on ext warranties, gap insurance, etc. The finance manager does and the dealership does.

- ki am with you on that too.. I got the best deal I could, and the warranties were only brought to my attention by the finance manager. I think they were trying to make up the money with them.. I did not purchase any ext. warranties
